    Newish player with random questions.

    Hello everyone.
I'm a newish player to this. I did manage to get to 50 on a WHM and I do enjoy it a lot. I did play a thurm so I can get swift cast but I'm also told to get an eye for an eye from arcanist. But reading up on it its like stoneskin with worst drawbacks it seems. Am I wrong in thinking that? Also what is a good way to make mgp for Golden saucer? I didn't do any side stuff in leveling me toon. And lastly is it better to run story as a dps? I seem to have a lot of trouble running some quest as a healer.

Eye for an eye is another spell you can cast on your tank as he pulls to mitigate *some* damge. It's a great asset for you as a WHM but far as important as swiftcast. It really shines in any dungeon/trial in which several mobs attack your tank as each attack has a set % chance of lowering the mob's damage dealt, in the end that does make a difference. Again, much less effective on a single boss trial like primals but still something that increases your effectiveness as a WHM by a little bit.

tl;dr get it if you can, noone will kill you for it if you don't.

currently the fastest way of making MGP is farming TT wins off profitable NPC's, getting your daily 5 wins that net you 180 mgp each (only in a match against another player and only if you win), aside from that certain gates like wtfungah, daily mini cactpot and the jump cactpot if you get lucky enough.

And I don't think DPS have it any easier, running some of the class quests as DRG or BRD can be annoyingly difficult due to your low hp and inability to heal yourself like a healer could. Tanks got it the easiest imo.

I usually cast Eye for an Eye as the tank heads to do a pull and will cast it back throughout long fights.
I don't believe it hurts any, but I wouldn't rely solely on it.

I don't known if it conflicts with other's abilities. Only once did I hear a tank complain about receiving it in a 50+ dungeon but I have no idea why, I was not the healer in that case.

Like already said above, eye4eye is a good skill. Not exactly game changing, but certainly will make you a better WHM. C'mon, do some hunts log and challenge log with ARC, then turn to SCH when you hit ARC 30 so you can insta-queue for dgns for 4 more levels. TA-DA. Eye4eye: Useful for big mobs, since big mobs = more chances to proc and more enemies affected.

And, I think WHM have a very good time running main story. Cleric stance turn INT to MDN, so regen and pew pew pew. Sounds easy to me.
Run main story with dps is not hard. DRG got better defense and hp; ninjas are really powerful, but not exactly durable; brds can "forever-kite"; smn have a tank pet; black mage is powerful and can cross class phisyck. Monks... Well... can't hit positional soloing, plus are not durable. Maybe hard for them.

Regarding Eye for an Eye, I agree with what Trixxy posted except on when to use the skill. Since the skill has a chance of debuffing the enemy with every hit the enemy makes, and a tank who's in the middle of a pull is doing their best to keep enough distance from the mob so they don't get hit, it's kind of a waste to use the skill in the middle of the pull. Instead, use it shortly after the tank's done pulling and is standing in place for DPS to attack. Furthermore, if your tank isn't the kind to get initial aggro on everything along the way (i.e. use skills as they run so every monster's name is in red, not orange), you would pull aggro from having used a skill on the tank.

A nice way to handle large pulls is to estimate where the tank is going to stop, Divine Seal + Medica 2 so that the spell will hit right after the tank's stopped moving and has initial aggro on everything (DS+Swiftcast+Med2 if needed), Regen, and then Eye for an Eye while your skills are on global cooldown.
This combo and maybe a Cure2 to top off the tank gives WHMs the best opportunity to throw out some Holy's because the healing-over-time from the regen effects is almost as big having a Cure casted every 3 seconds. Plus the Holy's keep stuff stunned for a few seconds, possibly interrupting some enemy skills, buying more time for the regens to do their work while you help the mob die faster so less healing needs to be done in the long run. (Even if you don't like to cast Holy, taking advantage of Med2+Regen makes mobs significantly easier to manage.)

After that, if the mob still isn't dead, the effects of Eye for an Eye can get pretty noticeable on very large mobs. Sometimes, you'll get parties where the mob is still alive after over a minute; it's mostly because of this that I suggest to use the skill after the tank's done pulling instead of using it at the start of a pull and losing 10+ seconds on it.

I don't know that it's easier to complete with DPS, as healer jobs have good survivability, but for players who want to level several different jobs and those include DPS, I recommend using doing Main Scenario Quests on a DPS class, just because that's a lot of quest XP that can be given to one of the jobs that has a harder time getting dungeon XP due to long DF queues.
