Of course, nowadays gamers just want to maximize their damage by constantly swinging rather than maximizing their damage by attacking at the right times.
Games aren't necessarily supposed to adhere to everything that happens irl. Things are compromised for gameplay purposes, or for balance. Type-0 actually does a great job at this, allowing you multiple defensive options (dodge/block/cure) and your chances for using those 3 vary from fight to fight, character to character. Noctis just feels really clunky and doesn't do much damage this early on, so you're just swinging around like a mad man trying to get a hit in.

The XV demo was actually a weird showcase of Noctis' limitations - IE the dog enemies that were all over the place were highly mobile, your only real option outside of Jump was to Warp, which costs substantial MP when you also need to use FT/Tempest/etc depending on the situation. Noctis basically eats MP like there's no tomorrow, it's sort of insane how much you can go through in one enemy encounter (see: Goblin Cave of Hell). You also never actually need to dodge in the entire demo, you can just use Drain Blade and Tempest for pretty much everything. Parrying is also super weirdly timed, I couldn't figure out when the game wanted me to actually do it. That stuff aside, the combat was actually okay. The weapon changing thing was interesting but nothing actually felt like it was making a difference - I stuck the Great Sword on back attack because it was too clunky to hit anything with. The lances were basically all I used on startup attacks only because they seemed to have longer reach/quicker animation - hopefully there's more variance in the full game or I just didn't catch what they did different in the demo.

Anyway, it's definitely... a demo. Showcased a lot of things, very rough around the edges but I think most of that will get cleaned up. Ramuh was insane, the Behemoth was insane, and Cidney was gr8. Think everyone got out of it what they were supposed to get out of it - hype.

Type-0 has definitely been cleaned up way more, we're looking at bare bones XV atm so there's not a lot to go on. T0 has weak points, varying magic, varying defensive options, switching between characters to optimize the situation, optimizing team comps, etc. etc. There'll definitely be a lot more versatility in the full game, so it's really hard to say how similar they are atm.
