There are even instances where I get meteored three and even four times in a few seconds, and unlike briars, there's nothing you can do about it, there is just no counter other than luck.
I had a funny match where the very first item from the first chest was a meteor.
Don't quote me on it; but I think the occurance of meteors might have to do with the time set by the forerunner. I noticed seeing them a lot more when I or someone else was way ahead.
