I'm wondering when this even became a thing. I've played a lot of MMOs before this one, and in every one of them the act of explaining important elements like boss mechanics to new people in the party was absolutely something people did without question, without expecting everyone to run to Youtube and visually spoil their entire dungeon experience beforehand. When did the simple effort of teaching/helping become such a no-no?

On top of that, this game rewards everyone in the party with bonuses whenever a new player (to the encounter) is present. I'm pretty sure this is meant to be a reward for taking the time to be helpful to the new adventurers who are in need of help. If people aren't willing to explain boss fights to someone new, then they're not being very helpful and they're not being good teammates - it's that simple.

I'm sorry you had a lame experience. Most of mine thus far have been good, but there have definitely been a few doozies out there filled with folks that really probably shouldn't be playing in a social environment to begin with. In no way is a situation like that ever your fault. Sometimes I think people forget this is a game, and whether it's Freeze-Tag, Chutes and Ladders, or a friendly game of volleyball you generally tend to explain the game to newcomers rather than just dragging them blindly through it with an annoyed look on your face.
