Help a noob not be so noob - Tips for Raids / Towers

    Hello All,

Did that classic mistake yesterday and went completely downhill. My otherhalf and I hit Level 50 and very eager to do something "Fun or End Game".

We unlocked Labyrinth of the Ancients ( sp ) So! Duty finder and jumped in excited as school girls at a highschool prom.

Now the Ugly part, my otherhalf was very confused and slow to attack anything.

Somone or "They" tried to vote her out for lack of gear and lack of action ( Her total Ilevel 52 mine was 54 )

It would seem that we joined a very elite group they did not wait for 4 to 12 people to get to the Line or in the boss fight before engaging after zones. The fights were extremely difficult being 1 or 2 healer, 2 bards, 2 dps short on most fights. A lot was said in shouts I'll keep it PG for the forum but you can imagine.

After several wipes and many mishaps... the overall Dungeon was a win.. but I'm very discouraged on going back without some pro tips. I'm a healist (Whm) she is a dps (Drg).

You just were unlucky and got a bad group. Most of the time when I do the Crystal Tower having 1 or 2 low ilvl people doesn't change much as long as the rest of the group isn't new of course. The only thing I can tell you to do if possible is to watch a video or 2 on the differents parts of the Crystal Tower before doing them just to at least know what you'll face in there.

Ok, the first thing you need to be aware is the mechanics of those fights. As a healer, try to focus your healing on your party and the alliance Main tank. Ignore everyone else (later you'll be more experienced and you will solo heal an entire alliance if you want to, I'm a bad healer and I can do it)

For example. Heal pots in thanatos when they need it, keep your party's hp up in king behemoth and those basic stuff, any doubt just ask your party. If they are elitists, just ignore and try to learn by yourself

I'm sorry that happened to you, but the fact is that a majority of people running it these days aren't necessarily doing it because they want to do it. It's an older than dirt instance that is required each week to get one of the current upgrade mats for i120/130 gear. The sooner it's over, the better. So yes, a lot of the time, people are going totally gung ho so they can get back to doing other stuff they'd rather be doing.

If you're in an FC, maybe try putting together a group yourself that'll go at a slower pace or be willing to explain the instance to you. Alternatively, maybe speak up and say that you're new if you choose to just DF it. I've had a lot of instances where you get the "One or more players are new to this instance," but no one speaks up, so the rest of the party assumes people know their role. Lastly, as Wilhem mentioned, try YouTubing a video before entering to get a general feel for the place.

Trying to be helpful, so hopefully some of that was. Good luck!

LotA is something most groups just skate through, since the current gear level outstrips the encounters so much it's ridiculous. So a lot of players have a very "blah" attitude toward it.
The next one, ST, is similar, but you'll need to be iLevel 80 to do it, which isn't that hard to do.
The towers aren't hard. You should be worried if you actually DO start wiping in them.

Really sorry to hear that you got unlucky with LotA.

Maybe watch a video on youtube next time? Or ask if there's any kind soul that would explain fights before people charge in.

You just got really unfortunate and got a bad group. If people are going to pull before the entire alliance gets to the next room, they have no room to bitch about how hard the fights are without the people that didn't make it in. LotA has a minimum item level of 50, so there's no reason for them to kick you because of your gear. The content is so faceroll anymore that it isn't even funny. As a healer, there's not too much you need to worry about aside from keeping your alliance members alive. Know who your main tank is. Heal your alliance's pot at Thanatos. Four people need to stay on each platform at Atomos. Hide behind comets when King Behemoth casts Ecliptic Meteor. Run back to your alliance's platform when Phlegethon casts Ancient Flare (right after Iron Claws spawn).

I think anyone reading this and has not done this dungeon, take a second read-thru this was dead on the strategy we had to learn on the go. You will go from fight to next area to fight like boss battle then to next boss battle and each needs their own strategy to defeat. This is awesome info!

Awesome suggestions and to put a little more info, yes we both said "we are new any direction would rock". As for the strategy definitely next time we will youtube first! Our FC is new we just joined some friends so everyone is new and didn't have much input to give. Thank you very much I think that's a keen point " As a healer, try to focus your healing on your party and the alliance Main tank. Ignore everyone else "

And now that I know how... repetitive this tower is truly makes me less bitter knowing people NEED to grind this and don't want too.... respectively I can understand this. As I have no ambition to level THM and yet its 13 needing to hit 26 for 1 ability.

One line that I noticed missing from your original post was:

"We let everyone know that we were new to the run, and would appreciate any guidance."

Did this happen? Or did you start the run off with nary a word, and no idea what was going on?

When you're new to an instance, it's a good idea to let people know that you are new. They will be more forgiving of your mistakes, and in general will give you advice and guidance over the course of the run, especially if they see you struggling. There's a lot of folks who will join a raid and simply not participate, letting the rest of the group carry them through and picking up free loot along the way - these people are regularly kicked if they are caught doing such a thing, and your S.O. may have been mistaken for such an individual.

There are horror stories on the forums about people who are kicked from an instance because they are new and the "elites" don't want to have to babysit them. I've never personally seen this happen, and I suspect it's quite rare. Most players are helpful, and require a trigger before the PG13 language starts to fly.

Remember, it's not the responsibility of the other players to explain the mechanics of a run every time! In the vast majority of runs, everyone already knows what they're doing (and, likely, has completed the run many, many times over), so the assumption is that if you don't say otherwise, you know what to expect!
