Question about /tells

Is there some way to set up an auto-response to /tells? I'm sick of the spamming and have shut my /tells off, but I would like to have a quick reply message saying just that--so that people who really do want to talk to me know that they have to /shout or give me a location to meet and talk in /say.

Ideally, of course, the devs would get off their butts and actually deal with the spamming situation by any of several modifications to the blacklist and/or the addition of a one-click report/blacklist function, but having seen some of the posts on this subject I won't hold my breath for that.

Any help would be appreciated. 8D

If the spamming you refer to is tells that say "give us real money to buy gil," I'd use this web site to most efficiently report them so you actually help everyone:

I'm actually interested in this myself, and I don't think that link is the answer the OP wants. He doesn't want the long, complicated, nearly useless reporting function that the link offers, he just wants an automatic response so that anyone sending a tell gets it--like, "Sorry, the spammers have made tells too painful to bear so I've shut them off. Please look me up in person if you want to talk."

Or some such. =)

Spot on. That link is the reason I shut my tells off, because if I reported every RMT tell I got using that unbelievably tedious and cumbersome method I would spend better than half of my time doing nothing but that. If the devs are serious about crushing the RMT morons, they need to make player input as painless as possible--and that method/form needs an anesthetic.

one-click report/blacklist function

Right click on name - blacklist - after N hours delete person form blacklist... move on...

Thanks for the reply, but you still aren't getting it; that's partly my fault, since I said' one click blacklist' and not 'one click report.' However, if the one-click blacklist is supposed to be the answer, they also need a one-click empty the blacklist OR an infinite blacklist, whichever.

I'm less interested--or maybe equally interested--in my own convenience short-term as I am in killing the spammers completely and helping my convenience long-term. While spammers will never be completely killed until other actions are implemented--the sort that make it unprofitable to try and sell gil in the first place--involving the player base is a key strategy and won't happen as long as the report function is so clumsy and time-consuming.
