You can't change from steam to PC - they block your account. You really would have to start all over again I was considering it, and doing some research when I found out.

That's the problem, you can't. Both Steam and non-Steam version show up as "Windows" on the Mog Station and you can only have one type of each platform on each account (same as you can't add PS3 more than once, unless you upgrade it to PS4 first etc).

That might have been me, I have one Square Enix account with both a Steam and a non-Steam version of FFXIV, but they're under different service accounts. I can log one character from each both in at the same time and I have to pay 2 subscriptions, but at the same time I'm also under the same "restrictions" as everyone else. I need to buy non-Steam upgrade for one account and Steam upgrade for the other one.
