Remember folks: If SE themselves could simplify the system, they totally would. This is the downside of cross-platform gaming.

Because Valve takes a chunk of the profits from FFXIV sales through Steam. This is why Steam players can only pay for their subscription with the Steam Wallet. If SE started allowing people with Steam accounts to buy the regular CE, Valve would be losing out on revenue.
As for being able to sell the PS3 and PS4 versions, if things were the same with Sony/Nintendo/Microsoft we wouldn't have Gamestop we'd have "Nintendo Place", "Sony Boutique", and "The Xbox Store" or something like that.
Is this really a valid complaint? I mean its not new news that Steam stuff only works on Steam stuff, and that Steam is terrible for customer support; I'm pretty sure your anger/frustration is being directed in the wrong direction. It really isn't SE who controls the compatibility issue, its Valve/Steam. Sad thing is though, like I mentioned already their customer support is terrible, I mean like you'll get an automated response and never hear back, there is no phone number to contact them, no direct emails, only a 'no-reply' email address...
Anywho, you can get the game pretty cheap now, I bet they will have it on sale for PC sometime before launch for 20 bucks or less. I recommend just picking that up and pre-ordering the Heavensward Collector's Edition if you had your heart set on it. Actually just looked it up, retailers selling it for 21.99. LINK
This is totally made up. Steam player have that as an option. It's not the only payment method at all.
I think Valve has nothing to do with this decision. SE have keys for retail and steam versions of the base game, and they register them separately, its their decision. Then, they have the same 2 type of keys for Heavensward and they choose to check its origin and only validate what they want.
I don't find anything that relates this to be Valve's fault.
Just to contribute to this thread, I remember pre-ordering Skyrim and picking it up on Day 1 only to find that the disc's installer pointed me directly to Steam to enter the code I was given on the box. I... remember not being very pleased with that as I didn't pre-order the CE or anything like that. However, something like that could work with this game nicely.
Truth be told, this very same thing could be done. Replace the Heavensward Disc and activation key with a Steam code.
Steam only does digital downloads. What did you expect?
For those telling me to buy a copy from SE:
My FC mate did that for me. I have a code and everything. When I go to Mog Station, it doesn't allow another PC code to be registered.
So yes, I still consider this a valid complaint.
Seeing that you can add non-steam games to steam (even DLC). I am not really sure why they couldn't do it. To me, it just seems like a way to get more money from people. If you have the steam version and you want the physical CE you would pretty much need to buy the physical CE for the items (art book, statue) and the steam digital CE for the in-game items.
