Haven't seen something like this in almost 15 years of playing mmo's

I had some friends playing and raiding. They were talking about the expansion and I got a new computer recently, so I thought I'd give it another go, and stream it along the way.

But the leveling in this game is absolutely dreadful. It is literally the worst leveling experience I've EVER had in any MMO in recent memory. I haven't played something this painful in so long. It's not just painful; it's annoying. The game has SO many QOL issues that I can't wrap my head around it one bit. It got to the point where I wouldn't stream the game anymore simply because playing it put me in such an awful mood.

When the game is this annoying to play, it literally makes me not want to continue after hitting cap; or even reaching it. I'm almost 46... And honestly I'm not sure if I even want to continue getting the last 4ish levels I need.

(Post is too long and I need to reply to add more)

Maybe I expected too much? Possible. I've played mmo's at the very top end, I've been raid lead for several heroic progression guilds back in the day, working on world progression kills and so on. Not to mention all the BASIC things games, not just MMO's, but just GAMES nowadays have that FFXIV is lacking. I'm not sure if it's on purpose or maybe it has to do with the fact that it's also on PS4. Which it could be but there's still some very basic things the PC version NEEDS. Simple basic things, and I'm not even talking about addons here.

But I find myself often NEEDING to take a break, which is unheard of for me. I could and have literally raided and wiped on bosses 8 - 10+ hours a day, every day for weeks at a time. But I've found myself needing to take a break just to even continue and get 1 more level. It's an actual fight to progress and keep playing.

Ever think that maybe you are just getting burnt out, and its not the game. Yes please take a break, you'll be glad you did.

You could just (maybe)explain what you dislike so that there can be an actual discussion about it ?

(also, you can edit your post to bypass that BS 1000 character limit)

Tbh i'm not sure we play the same game xD On more serious note, if you get that long or feel that dreadful about leveling your first class, you are probably doing it the wrong way! Leveling the first class in ffxiv IMO is quite different than grinding your char in other games. If you know how to do it right, it can be pretty fast and easy too (2-3 days for 1st class to 50). Maybe slow down and asking your friend for some leveling tips may help?

Beside, if you are just annoying about the game control (and not the leveling process itself) then maybe this game is not for you. I find some of the controls/menu in game are clumsy sometimes too, but i guess i just get used to it now The other content worth it for me at least

Yeah, I have to echo the people asking what you're doing to level, because your first class should be leveled mainly just by doing the story. There shouldn't be any sort of grinding involved until you hit level 46 or so.

This game is totally different from other MMO, for FF fan they love this game but for pure MMO I'm not entirely sure about that. This game cannot be compare with WoW, because this game is story driven content.
Leveling here is not that hard, I'm able to lvl 50 with with few weeks even I just a casual player, play 2 hours weekdays and 5-6 hours weekend. The actual grind start when you hit lvl 50 from my point of view.
The dungeon on this game are fairly easy and even the primal normal mode, I haven't try any raid yet because I'm not reach the ilvl requirement yet and not unlock full content yet, but if you compare with WoW, I'm pretty sure this game is like child play for difficulties.

I agree with the QOL statement on specific stuff. The UI needs a ton of tweaks, including the ability to multi-task while crafting (instead of getting the equivalent of a "Sit down and be quiet, you're crafting and nothing else is allowed while you do"), and I don't even want to start on how ridiculous the lack of ability to report spammers with a simple right click is, but I do have a comment on the leveling.

It took time to realize that there is an intentional progression for character/class/job in this game, and that while it is possible to have one avatar able to do everything it would indeed take insane grinding. If you look at it as primary/secondary/tertiary, then the fact that there are three starting zones that are each capable of leveling a character to 15 makes sense: level the p/s/t and then take the primary to 30 and job it.

Doing it like that kills 90% of the grinding, though it does make multiple characters necessary if you want to cover all the possibilities.

The fact that you're being so angry about very vague things makes this seem like a troll post. But I'm going to pretend it isn't.

First off, as people keep saying, what are you doing to level? If you're following the main story you shouldn't be having any problems leveling from about 1-46 because the quests are designed to give you enough XP to get to the next quest without having to do much extra grinding.

If you are following the main quest and still find yourself lacking in levels make sure you're doing your class quests. Those will also give you a decent chunk of EXP as well as new skills you will need for dungeons.

Other things that will help: Do you're class hunting log, Unlock the Challenge Log, Do Leve Quests, Do Guildhests, After you've unlocked the first two dungeons (which will happen through the story) you can begin to take advantage of the daily low level roulette.

As for you're QoL problems without knowing more it's going to be pretty much impossible to help you. It's possible that what you're looking for is in fact in the game but you don't know how it works yet, (Some things aren't really explained in the tutorial pop ups) or it's locked behind a quest you haven't yet completed. In order to do things like: Dye your gear, change your hair, unlock the challenge log, ride the airships, use a mount, Guildhests, Leve Quests, Glamour your gear, unlock a new class, and probably some other things I can't think of at the moment, there are certain quests you have to get done first.

For any other QoL changes you're worried about, ask for them on the forums. The devs ARE listening. They implement new QoL changes every patch.

But honestly, the most important thing you can do for yourself right now is stop being vague and say what's actually bothering you. Otherwise there's nothing anyone can do.

I don't understand the op you should give more reason why you hate it so we can talk about it. In WoW i did 20+ quest in a area then a quest lead you to other camp for other 20+ quest. All being the same type of quest kill 25 of this and bring back 15 of this. Go here and talk to this npc and give him this item.

In FFXIV i could A: Fate B:Quest C: Main storyline if i'm a new player D: Dungeon and so on. There leves guildhest there job log that give you a lot of exp. I'm guessing you just bored with this type of game play for playing mmo for too long.
