Just because you play on a server that only unlocks character creation like 1hr every week doesnt mean its not a problem for a majority of the player base.
Just opened my log I have in the last 30mins 11 tells from 6 different RMT sites and 8 different characters
what i find really strange... if i log in to the game, it normally takes a while to get a RMT message. also, if i remove /busy it will take a while to get a RMT message. HOWEVER, if i go AFK i will almost always receive a message very quickly. and then after that, they just keep coming at a high frequency. i don't know, but something seems strange about it to me.
Going busy isn't saving me anymore. It helps a little from the constant harassment on lamia, but they just spam now in the say (main) chat boxes for the major cities because it's the only way they know they can get at people now because everyone is using the busy status now. Now you can't have a conversation in the regular chat in the main cities because it gets lost in the ten different Gil companies spam. Encouraging us to be anti social by only giving us the busy option to avoid the CONSTANT harassment is a poor business model to adopt in an MMO, SE.
why not have an option under black list that is titled "Spam". When an RMT posts if more than say 10 people hit spam in a certain amount of time then that account chat is locked for a period of time (a few days). This does not stop the problem but would help slow the large amount of crap we get.

It's had kind of a weird unintended effect on a lot of servers that are frequently locked for character creation. If you keep your blacklists up to date- which is getting increasingly more difficult. You can tell when character creation unlocks for your server as a literal tide of new gilsellers washes in.
That said, every game has crap like this, I imagine that FFXIV is getting a lot of attention because it's both doing pretty well and has it's first major expansion coming out in the near future. Trying to grab people who plan on using money to ease their passage up to the new level cap/new classes.
That said, there's only one solution to this problem, and Squeenix has already used it once before.
Goblin Bounty Hunters.
+9000 for account-wide blacklist. These RMTs would be forced to buy new copies of the games to make a new account just to spam us further. Yes please
even something like this could help. it may not seem like much, but taking at least one step forward isn't going to hurt anyone. come on SE, take your first baby-step.we will all get our video recorders ^_^

Honestly the best solution for now (to keep from spamming the forums with this topic) is simply to ignore them. Be ignorant of the tells! How hard is it to NOT read the little tell text when it pops up? I used to be so annoyed by the RMT spammers til I realized that it's me being annoyed that's my problem. Once I just became ignorant to them I stopped caring that they come through. Trust that one day they'll have a more viable solution to this problem but in the meantime just ignore it. If you can do that then you could stop creating new threads to talk about the same tired issue.

To think, all they have to do is one thing.

Just give me preferences as to can send me tells and friends requests, it's not that hard. Enough is enough already. I don't want to be busy 24/7 and I shouldn't have to make that choice. FIX IT ALREADY!
