One of the buttons below your character image switches your normal camera controls from controlling how you look at your actual character to how you look at the character image in the try-on window. (I'm not in-game at the moment and don't remember exactly what it calls that button, but it's to the right of the one that shows/hides the rest of your gear.) That should let you zoom in/out, pan, and rotate the try-on image.
