thats totally not what I was saying.
I have the feeling I'm on the wrong track because I don't use gamepad and I'm not taking soft targeting into consideration. thanksbut you can always press down 2/3 times and soft target to throw a lustrate (and return to your dot target). Manual embrace does not revert your target, but you can still soft target them use your "back" button to cancel and return to hard target. I try not to dot unless I can reliably get 3+bane before needing to heal anyway, because of stance CD.
You can just tab target back to the mob you applied your first dot to. Or you can use a mouseover macro for lustrate.OK, think I understand that.
However it does not fix the problem that you might want to heal the tank after you applied your first of three dots.
So you switch to tank by assisting the mob (that sound strange haha) to heal him, if the tank switched his target by now, your next assist will not be on the mob you cast you first dot on.

I found the preference for changing L3 and R3. It was in the system preferences, not character preferences where I usually go for everything else. I had never thought to look there. I stuck assist on R3. So far, I have only run one dungeon with it, but it has been pretty convenient. While it won't replace my current macros and stuff, it will make my life easier in plenty of ways. Thanks again for the tip, Petite.
For us controller users, what you just described is not so simple to achieve. I've got it figured out, but a lot of other folks are still struggling with it.
