It multiplies the customization options pretty much by ten, and I mean just the options, since the increase in combinations is exponential.
That's hardly what I would define a "bit".

It's pretty much in line with today's standards. Some cases with more options (which often lead to hideous results) hardly qualify as a "standard".

It's XI, with some minor enhancements. Is it better? Sure. Is it a continuation of XI's character creation? Yup.

You still have characters that roughly like the same. As OP showed, there are numerous ways to really make a difference, and many MMOs (and numerous other genres) do go for something a little more varied. Numerous people in this topic have agreed on this as well.

That's what I was thinking, too.. of all the MMOs I've played, only a handful of them have character creation that's *that* in depth. Aion, Perfect World, Forsaken World... and a few others come to mind. Most MMOs, by far, do not offer that much character customization. So, it's by no means "modern standard".

I think we could do well with more hair styles, voice sets, eye colors... perhaps different chest sizes for those who seem to want it in a video game (kinda creepy, IMO)... but the all-out character customization of a game like Aion, as you stated Abriael, could lead to some very, very ridiculous, often creepy-looking characters which kinda detract from the game.

I mean check out some of the samples on this page: Click Here

    No thanks.

By all means, more options for each race's look/sounds, details, etc... But I think they should still resemble what they're supposed to.

What is wrong with having a character that is not magazine cover perfect? Not like it's very realistic...

Because too many people end up dragging sliders to random directions trying to outdo each other by making the characters as ugly as possible. Or, if the system allows it even abuse it, try selecting a character that is 1 pixel wide everywhere :P
Best system would be one that allows sliders but limit them to realistic proportions, imho.

The discussion is starting to repeat itself btw, we had most arguments and counterarguments for the systems a la Aion/PW already.

This is why the Phantasy Star Universe-esque slider would be good. It allows for good diverse body types, but it also prevents you from being able to create the oddly shaped extremes you can in games such as Aion.
