Level 49 miner ...mining unspoiled nodes?

Twice today I was mining dark steel and clusters at unspoiled nodes....when I ran into a character level 49 with level 37 armor mining them to. How is this possible? Even his primary tool was level 43! Is there something I'm missing....I going insane just trying to get my gear higher through melding. How is he doing this.

You get truth at 46 so you can see the node. You can attempt mining it but you won't get anything out of it. Its all out of reach until you get toil at 50.

You can reach the items without the Toil but you'll waste attempts digging them reachable depending how high gathering one has.

It is quite possible to mine and acquire items from the lowest of Unspoiled Nodes (which DOES include Darksteel and Clusters) before you reach level 50. I did so myself when I first leveled Miner. You won't have Toil, so you'll need to dig through the clutter (it will take 2-3 swings to dig through), but you CAN successfully gather materials. It's just not very worthwhile until you get level 50 gear and Toil.

For a newbie Gatherer, though, I can certainly see the appeal of hitting up those Unspoiled nodes as soon as you're able to detect them, however poor your yield. It can definitely give you a sort of "I'm in the big leagues, now!" feeling when you collect your first Darksteel Ore!

I've done the same. It normally took me three swings to get through to the material underneath.

You certainly can get something out of it, just not nearly as much as you can after level 50.
