Well if its true that Heavensward has as much content as 2.0 then its well worth the $40 price tag. Ill be getting Digital CE. Not paying +$70 for an art book with a bunch of images ill only see once and which I can probably find most of online through promotional things like ads and desktop backgrounds... and a tiny statue of a random dragon mount. If it was a statue of a well known character (faction leader, scion, Yugiri, etc) id consider it. Then again ive bought 2 CE's with statues so far and they were both disappointing.

$80 to even $100? Maybe. $130? No way. Digital CE gets all the in game goodies plus gives a nice tip in support of SE for a job (relatively) well done.

I doubt it was at little to no profit. Yeah they might have lost some revenue when they removed the sub and the fact that legacy players got it free, but $40 for a game isnt that far off. If you think about it ARR was the same as an expansion to 1.0 ... hell, it even follows the numbering (2.0). It was mostly remodeling 1.0 with new stories, and mechanics but most of its costlier elements were already done.

Technically, it's not just "Legacy players" but everybody who suscribed during FFXIV v1.

Bought the game, created your account, despised the obvious beta and never touched the game until ARR ? You also got it free.
And, at lauch, I'm sure v1 players were the vast majority of ARR playerbase.

    FTFY

Considering the going rate for whatever those blu-ray music discs sell for, this seems more likely.

If you want to go off previous-prices, the artbook should also be $40 - the same as the Art of Eorzea; A Realm Reborn.

I really wonder what games people are used to paying that these expansions are considered expensive, I consider the only thing normally priced is the digital CE. I thought the physical Standard and Collector's Edition (Not for EU), were under priced and a bargain

Conditioned into believing digital items have value. I should also enter the business of selling Youtube trailers in the "HDZ" for $20.

What would you call buying a game off Steam?

I'll give you a hint. It isn't physical.
