Thread: 39.99 to 129.99 for expansion pshh... yea right!

Can anyone tell me the price for ff11 expansions please?,cause I believe adoulin expansion was only 29.99, and I was a huge ff11 player and I never spent that much for just one expansion in ff11. Just saying 50 bucks for a expansion with only 2 new jobs, heavenward better give off the wow im hooked effect cause recently I haven't been feeling that from 14 like I did in ff11.

Um the Expansion isn't 50 bucks its 40 bucks, 60 if you want a the CE download stuff and 130 if you want all the CE physical stuff.

You can’t compare a FFXI expansion to FFXIV. There is way more work done for FFXIV in comparison to FFXI and that is mostly due to models and graphics. It is also an older game that is going to have its final story conclusion soon.

And the expansion is more of a ‘Part 2’ in terms of size. Just look at FFXIII, the FFXIII-2 sequel cost the same price as the original even though it was a continuation.

You can always wait a year or two for the price to drop, but $40 is not expensive for a video game. And as others said, you are not forced to buy the CE versions.

3DS games, they're all $40. So it's technically the lowest point cost for a brand new game.

A little bit of advocate. I'm constantly low on cash due to bills, and FFXIV's subscription is where the little that is left goes.

MMO expansions have been $40 for decades. If anything they should be MORE because of inflation, which is why WoW's newest one is $50.

In the U.S.
In Japan they MSRP for sometimes more than 5000￥, which is about $50. To give an example, well...here: http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E5%A4%A7%E4...5&keywords=3DS
Please keep in mind i'm pointing out the MSRP, not the discounted price only Amazon seems to get away with in Japan (they have bonkers laws that says the copyright holders can dictate pricing in stores, but Amazon apparently uses a loophole or something)
Americans are quite...finicky...about how much they're willing to pay for things. Japanese marketers hate us for that reason.

Man... that's sure a crying shame. Didn't know that about Japanese manufacturers though. That's interesting.

$40 is fine for an MMO expansion. $50 is even fine for an MMO expansion.. because currency changes value over time.

I can only assume that people complaining about the price point fall into one of the following categories:
1: Someone playing their first MMO and had absolutely no idea. Education fixes this. Sometimes.
2: Someone from the EU who is getting, frankly, boned. Only SE can fix this, and they don't seem to be in a right hurry to do that.
3: Someone talking about the physical collector's edition. This one does seem a little pricier than it maybe needs to be. But honestly, if you're one of those people that buys collector's editions of things, you should be used to it by now.

We aren't talking about handhelds or mobile phone games though. We are talking about the standard PC/Console launch price.
