CE physical copy - possible, yet expensive work around for steam issue?

    Hey all,

So I'm a steam user for ARR, but looking to get the physical CE for Heavensward. Can't turn down an awesome art book or model.

My question is, if I'm willing to buy the standard NON-steam version of FFXIV:ARR in order to have compatibility with the physical CE Heavensward, would that cause any kind of confliction with my account? Having both a steam and non-steam version of ARR registered etc?

I assume that would be fine as it's all stored on SE servers right?

Same game just different directories? No conflicting save data or anything?

If this is possible then I'm happy to find a cheap standard copy of ARR and lose the steam version.

    Thanks in advance

I started this game on NON-steam version FF14 ARR, when Steam ver come out I start using Steam ver without ueing steam Cd key
just enter my ID and password and im good to go
so now heavensward coming I have to buy a physical CE Heavensward and Steam Heavensward standard and just use the physical CE copy for cd key to mog station.

You would create a Second Account for FFXIV on your SE Account when u register a second PC key (non steam) and your characters are on the old one.

What u can do is when u want the Physical CE you can buy the Physical CE and the steam digital CE and sell the Key of the physical CE as a digital CE key so you can keep the stuff of the physical CE.

Oh no way! So no form of linking? That's rough, really rough.

So the only way really... is to buy the physical CE separately (ouch) and then buy the standard steam version of Heavensward?

    Bummer:/

From what I have gathered, if you wish to play FFXIV with Heavensward through Steam, you will have to get the Steam Heavensward version. Just because you're playing it through the Steam Client. You can also just simply download the installer from the FFXIV site and not play it through Steam. This should solve all your issues. Most likely this is also a consquence for being able to use Steam Wallet.

Your Squeenix account is seperate from Steam. There is no need for linking. If you check on Mogstation you will see it says 'Windows' copy. There is no seperate annotation for Steam.

Maybe not... Then again, if you did purchase through steam and activated the serial key you got on mogstation.
You will see that one of the payment methods you have is through the Steam Wallet!

On the standard non-steam version, you will see this option simply doesn't exist.
So I believe this shows whether your account is flagged as Steam or not.

Hmmm, I purchased ARR through Steam, and Mogstation doesn't have it flagged as being a Steam account, just Windows.

I purchased a physical copy of FFXIV before the Steam version was released. When the Steam version came out, I bought it but gave the key to someone else, who just installed the game off my disk and then played it normal. I play via Steam, with a regular Windows account, and she plays via Windows with a Steam account. It's kinda funny. However, this is going to make it odd when I go to play Heavensward, unless I do something similar with it, I'm guessing.

Honestly, there's no reason for this; we shouldn't have to jump through hoops. They need to figure this out, and soon. We should be able to register a Physical copy of the game via Steam. No questions asked.
