Need clarification on PS4 needing physical disc in system during Heavensward gameplay

Hi,

I am seeing conflicting arguments on this in regards to people playing ARR on a PS4 with a physical copy.

Here's my situation. I originally bought ARR digitally off PSN as it was super cheap on a sale. I then did the free PS4 upgrade, which is another digital copy.

So I preordered the physical copy of Heavensward CE for my PS4, but now I'm hearing that on the PS4 you have to always have the disc in the PS4 system in order to play it. I also heard the same for anyone who bought and used ARR on the PS4 with a physical disc.

I also hear a lot of PS4 players saying that this is not true and they have used the ARR disc only for installation and after that the disc is no longer needed, and this may likely be the same for physical copies of Heavensward on the PS4.

Can anyone confirm any of this for me? So is the PS4 able to play ARR without the disc if you purchased it in a physical disc?

I bought the physical copy of ARR and the game isn't running without the disc.
Which is kind of odd, since the PS3 didn't have such a restriction...

That really really sucks. Considering I can't get physical CE due to Steam and now this is a major bummer. I honestly don't understand how something as simple as key activation would require a Disc check mechanic as if I was gaming on computer from 1995 due to piracy concerns. Really boggles my mind as its account bound I'd imagine.

You don't need the disc in the PS4 to run it.

I've never taken it out of it's box. I installed from PSN download for early access before my physical copy arrived.

Expansion key is not account base, but system+account base (You can check my topic here)

However, CE bonus is account based.

It's because you installed it from PSN. Installing from the disc will require the disc to play.

Question, though : You can download the launcher on PSN for free ?

I only needed the disc for installation and to confirm that it was my FFXIV account being linked to my PSN profile of a PS4.
After that was sat up, never needed the disc again.

I bought the PS4 ARR CE if that's makes any difference.

Hi,

I know that for me to upgrade my steam version of ffxiv to Heavensward, I'll have to wait to purchase it on the steam store. My concern is upgrading my ps4 ARR with a physical copy of Heavensward, will I need the disc in the ps4 every time I play?

also, I should be able to buy the standard steam edition of Heavensward without worrying of losing any of my CE digital items as I would have it up and running already due to having the ps4 CE correct?

If you pre-order heavensward, you will get early access code. This will allow you to download directly from psn. After that, you will not need the disc. I use remote play a lot so I keep a physical game in the drive other than ffxiv so I always have the option of at least two games. Have never kept the disc in to play ffxiv on my ps4

And yes, as long as you have one ce, the items are tied to your account not to your platform (pc, ps4, etc)
