There's a floating city, or the ruins of one, right there in Outer La Noscea.
We're getting flying mounts with Heavensward.
Any chance we'll see the zone get redesigned slightly to let us visit the ruins?

No. The Floating City of Nym has zero connection to Heavensward - SE made it quite clear that you can only use flying mounts in the new expansion zones (Sea of Clouds/Dravanian region) and will not be able to fly in existing areas. Also given the fact the ruins of Nym are on Vlybrand and not Aldenard and that's pretty conclusive that's a resounding no to your question I'm sorry.
Whoah take a step back and reread your post. I usually like your stuff, but this was a little blunt even for my taste.No. The Floating City of Nym has zero connection to Heavensward - SE made it quite clear that you can only use flying mounts in the new expansion zones (Sea of Clouds/Dravanian region) and will not be able to fly in existing areas. On topic, its not likely as we don't currently know of any connection to Nym and heavensward. If we do eventually get a
map that includes nym, its possible that flying may be included there. It is entirely possible to add maps of other places
not related to the focus of the expansion, and random reasons for venturing there could easily be added in. See Bibiki
Bay and Puronongo Islands in FFXI. There were some small objectives there, and they were located near older regions
but really had nothing to do with Sea or Sky.
Since a lot of the expansion revolves around flight, and since there is a floating continent somewhere you very well may have a zoneline somewhere in Outer La Noscea - perhaps Nym is involved. We really don't know much about how or where Heavensward areas will be accessed.![]()
That's pretty much what I was hoping for, even if my expectations aren't terribly high for it at the moment. There's plenty of ways to add a Heavensward - style zone adjacent to Outer La Noscea, even if it's not right at the expansion, just to add a bit of spice to the old locations and give the pretty floating ruins some attention. On topic, its not likely as we don't currently know of any connection to Nym and heavensward. Not going to hold my breath, but it would be nice...
I'm with the green chicken on this one. While I'd like to see the city of Nym, it strikes me as an idea for a 2.X dungeon that was never implemented. I also remember artwork for an ixali themed dungeon that didn't make it into the game. While such locations and ideas COULD make it into heavensward, the dev team is probably looking forward to totally new areas and ideas, instead of back tracking to zones we were just in. And honestly, wouldn't you be disappointed if a lot of the 3.0 story involves bumming around in 2.0 zones? I sure hope I'm not still hanging out in Outer La Noscea or even Coethas Central Highlands in a year or two.
Maybe 4.0 can be an "Eorzea United" expansion with Ala Mhigo and all of the little places we've not visited dotting the landscape.
You're still going to be bumming around some part of Coerthas, most likely, to look at what we know of the expansion. And we're going to get flying chocobos, So maybe turning Nym into the flying chocobo racetrack for gold saucer? Having one set of floating islands we can visit and one we can't just gets to me a little.
Oh, I imagine we WILL go there eventually, I just don't think it will be in Heavensward. The zones mentioned so far have been more to the north.
Unlike the Ixali city, Nym is probably something that was set aside for us to return to later. I'll bet we see it in the same expansion that brings us Sharlayan and / or Ala Mhigo. Maybe a plotline about visiting all 12 of the cities dedicated to the Eorzean divinities.
From the pax east interview:
I can still hope, darn it!So not only the warriors of light, but also the NPCs will be moving the site of their adventures to Ishgard?
Y: Well, there are also elements of the story of Heavensward in the existing three city-states, so not everything is concentrated in one place.
They do have the option of adding flight to these areas later on especially if they add things further down the line. Happened in WoW they had flight in the new expansion at the time (burning crusade) and flight was later added to the vanilla areas.
