With the recent info we have been given about the HQ revamps, I find myself wondering if SE will seize the opportunity to revamp the stats on HQ'd items alongside it.

As an example: Will HQ crafting armor (not tools) still be on the same level as their NQ counterparts, or will we see additional stats bonus such as Crafstmanship, Control and M. Craftsmanship included in the mix as well?

I've raised this topic some time ago, although there were more important discussions taking place at the time. However, with the recent confirmation of the HQ revamp, I feel that now is a good time to bring this topic back up and see what the community thinks, and hopefully hear more about it from SE themselves.

To better clarify what I mean I will give some examples (consider the HQ's as +3s):

Current System:

Silver Tricorne NQ/HQ

Defense: 56/65
M. Defense: 72/83
Evasion: 19/22

Resilience: 64/64
STR: +3/+3
DEX: +3/+3
Ele. Resistance: +26/+26

Dodore Doublet NQ/HQ

Defense: 91/105
M. Defense: 78/90
Evasion: 34/40

Resilience: 51/51
STR: +2/+2
VIT: +2/+2
Craftsmanship: +26/+26
M. Craftsmanship: +9/+9
Ele. Resistance: +28/+28

As you can see in the bolded text, the only attributes that get a boost are Defense, M. defense and Evasion. This is how our current system works.

The only thing that makes an HQ Tricorne better than an NQ is a bit of a boost in survivability, though for most DoM players this hardly makes a difference. On the other hand, the HQ Doublet offers no benefits whatsoever over its NQ counterpart, when used as intended (crafting).

This makes the higher price tag on the HQ Tricorne questionable, while the higher price tag for the HQ Doublet is a complete waste.

Let's take a look at a possible system revamp.

Revamped system:

Silver Tricorne NQ/HQ

Defense: 56/60
M. Defense: 72/75
Evasion: 19/20
Resilience: 64/70
STR: +3/+4
DEX: +3/+4
Ele. Resistance: +26/+30

Dodore Doublet NQ/HQ

Defense: 91/91
M. Defense: 78/78
Evasion: 34/34
Resilience: 51/51
STR: +2/+3
VIT: +2/+3
Craftsmanship: +26/+29
M. Craftsmanship: +9/+11

Ele. Resistance: +28/+28

In these 2 examples you'll see that the HQ gear gets more appropriate boosts in stats.

For the Tricorne, all stats have recieved a buff, but the Defense, M. Defense and Evasion stats are slightly lower than in our current system. Now there is a definite reason for DoM to pay the extra gil for the HQ.

As for the Doublet, the buffs were removed from the unnecessary stats and placed onto the stats that really matter; STR, VIT, Crftsmanship and M. Craftsmanship. Again, now there is a reason for crafters to shell out the extra gil to purchase the HQ version.

Keep in mind that these are just examples and that not all stats or even all beneficial stats should get a boost.

Let's take a look at yet another possible solution, materia slots.

Materia Slots:

First of all, this is entirely speculative. We know that we will be able to attach up to 5 materia to gear, however we do not know if this applies to all gear or if the materia slots will vary from piece to piece. Let's just assume the latter for this.

If materia slots do in fact vary from one piece of gear to the next, this opens up yet another opportunity for HQ items, and it should be far simpler for the dev team to organize.

The solution: Keep the current stat boost on HQ items and also give us 1 or 2 extra materia slots. This is probably the easiest approach and compliments the materia system. Although I'd agree I'd be pretty pissed If I broke an HQ Doublet because I was greedy, lesson learned, try again.

In closing, since they are already working to revamp the HQ system, I hope they do not pass up this opportunity to fix the actual benefits of HQ items. They can kill 2 birds with one stone with this. The sooner they do it, the less work they will have to do later.

Discuss.
