Could we get an Official Roleplaying Realm

MMO's changed forever for me when I discovered the RP realms in Warcraft. It was there I got to experience player made events where people took the basic world and story of the game and expanded on it to make it something more personal. A lot of mmo's have role playing servers because there are quite a lot of people like me that enjoy roleplay.

Even in this game people have created unofficial rp realms. It's no coincidence those servers (Balmung and Gilgamesh) are at max capacity most times. An official RP realm would not only do a bit in alleviating some of the stress of those servers, but also serve as a beacon for newcomers who are looking for others to role play with.

I approve of this request (not that anyone needs my approval, but you have it, so deal with it!). I wanted to originally create a character for Gilgamesh but I never could because it was constantly full, so I just sorta gave up and went to Faerie. I could do a world change I suppose... Seems like making friends in FFXIV is hard so it wouldn't really affect me either way.

Admittedly an official RP server would be nice for those that wish total immersion.

How does the role playing thing work? Do you have to talk a certain way in chat? Do you have to walk everywhere? Do you have to change clothes and sleep at inns? Eat at meal times? I don't see the fun in that. What exactly do role players do?

While I'm not a roleplayer, I do agree that there should be designated RP realms. We know that Balmung and Greg are the unofficial RP servers, but what about new players? How are they supposed to know, when there's no RP flag like in most games?

Only super crazy, dedicated RPers go to the extant that you just described, haha. Most RPers like me just like to chat and pretend that we are a unique character in that game world. Usually at inns or bar-like hubs, where you can talk about the adventures you've had and maybe even work with others on a branching RP story event. It's really fun for those of us who enjoy that sort of thing, but I can understand why some would find it a bit odd. We just enjoy going that extra mile and being totally immersed in another world

One of my RP characters just killed another player's character as part of the story we made. He's fantasia-ing into a whole new character with a name change.

You can have drama or comedy depending. Another character of mine went looking for grouuchy people to cheer up and put into a festive mood. She got mad at the other character and slapped him for being a big meanie.

Honestly, I don't think there's really a need for them to designate an RP server. I mean, they could, but it really won't affect much given the circumstances surrounding this game and the genre itself. To begin with, we have server capacity issues, where places like Balmung are among the top most congested servers... they probably don't want to add to the problem unnecessarily by making people feel like they MUST get to this one particular server to enjoy their game. They could always designate multiple servers as RP, but then comes the next situation. Most of the general player base just don't give a damn about which server they'll go to (exception if it were a PvP or PvE sort of thing). While not much of a problem, it basically means nothing happened as a result of the classification. You're likely to come across the same degree of RPers that you would on any server due to this, but I suppose there is still a better chance despite that. Then we come across the bottom feeders of all types. We'll have RPers (be it legit or just random people looking to take advantage) demanding SE offer free transfers because it wasn't classified when they chose a server. We'll have people actively looking to harass others for taking part in what they enjoy (RP), which has happened on RP servers on WoW. And so on.

Despite whatever negative outcomes there may be, it really wouldn't hurt the game as a whole to designate RP servers and may actually provide a positive experience for people. Just be ready for what comes with it, as there is never a completely positive thing when it comes to dealing with the possible interactions with people you meet on the internet.
