Unknown at this point. They could allow you to just download the Mac client and use your existing account. I don't know why anyone would want to use the Mac client though, considering it's not a native client, it's going to have limited performance compared to playing it through bootcamp.

Also, it's not the same as the PlayStation/PC thing, considering Square can host the Mac client download themselves. For PlayStation you need to go through the PSN store because Sony wants it's share of the money.

Under that logic wouldn't it be the same to say if person plays on Playstation they could just download the PC version and play with their current account cause SE can host it directly but it not, so it exactly the same as PC/PS setup.

Squenix could have allowed PS3/PS4 players to download the PC client and be able to play yes, but they didn't. They could also allow PC players to download the Mac client, but they might not. Sharing a Windows and Mac client is a LOT more common than sharing a PS3/PS4 client though.

I agree, the Mac client is going to contain the Windows files inside the Transgaming Cider wrapper. Everyone can open it and check it out the Application file. It makes no freaking senses to have different charge $59 for a client wrapper that uses internal same Windows.

    SE, we are not stupid.

Instead of making a client for the Mac, it uses a wrapper to allow you to run the Windows client on your Mac OS.

SQEX is bringing FFXIV to Mac with the help from Transgaming.
    Which means Cider time.

Given how that works and the underlying hardware platform similarity between Windows and Mac hardware, I don't see how this is a big issue, especially if it allows Mac users to be included now rather than later.

My understanding of Cider is that it's not a virtualized PC environment, but an application environment that translates API calls. That would allow a developer to more quickly port an application from PC to Mac. It would not prevent the developer from optimizing their product for the Mac, but it would simplify the process since it allows developers to focus on areas that will most benefit from native optimization instead of simple API translation.

where is the information saying the mac version wont be native? it was my impression that version would be native to the mac.

oh nevermind. transgaming cider, what a waste. seriously SE a total disappointment there.
better than using windows emulation but still a waste.
making the game native would have made you look a lot better. this just makes you look lazy and greedy.
