Just out of curiosity, if the Mac client just happened to appear on your Mac, what would prevent the client from not knowing it wasn't purchased? Are we gonna have to add a key to use the Mac Client?

Just happens to appear on your mac? Not sure what you getting at there but the data installed won't do any good unless you have key registered to your account for that system, So yes you will have to have the key added to your account to be able to use the mac version.
each client sends a code back to the login servers when you log into the game. if the login servers see a client code not registered for your account they send back a negative to the client.
which is what will happen with the mac client if you don't have it registered.
wait till the game is released on the mac someone from wine hq will likely examine to see if they can come close to re producing what cider does for it. keep in mind that while transgaming puts back into the open source pool of wine they purposely hold back code for long periods of time which is why their product runs better in a lot of cases than wine, and it is not against the rules so long as they add their code eventually.
