They would have to be dumb or blind to think this way after all the complaints threads regarding the prices.
I already wrote to Watchdog myself, This price is just disgusting and i can't believe SE went through with it. They deserve what is coming for them. They don't deserve my respect anymore.
Well it took awhile, but I think I managed to get it all down... If I missed anything can someone please follow up on what I missed out, Thanks.
Here's my letter in the hopes many of you will do the same
Square Enix the gaming company announced that Preorders for their upcoming expansion of their popular MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV will go ahead on the 17/3/2014 at 7am GMT. When the time came the website crashed and no one was able to get online and place any orders but before it did people manage to get the prices for the product in question that being the FINAL FANTASY XIV: Heavensward Collector´s Edition https://store.eu.square-enix.com/eme...rs-Edition.php It turns out that its sells for $129.99 in the US, 129.99 euros and £129.99 in the UK!! [Cont]
[Cont]We launched a forum on the official site to try and get an answer about the pricing as it surely was wrong but we got no reply from Square Enix on the matter on the forums but we did get confirmation on their official Twitter page @SQUARE_ENIX_EU stating that it is indeed £129.99 (we got this answer close towards the evening) When we asked why is the UK fans paying an extra £40 (roughly) they said they cannot talk about it. [Cont]Most of us was hopeful that they took the site down due to the pricing being a mistake as it surely has to be but this morning (18/03/14) I went to check the website as they said it will be available to purchase 7am the following day and it was indeed back online with a slight interruption and the price still remained £129.99!
Taken from a forum post at:
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...51#post2845151
I gathered all the prices for the same product globally and compared them this is what I found.
15,984.00 JPY = 89.3619 GBP
Japanese Yen ↔ British Pound
1 JPY = 0.00559071 GBP 1 GBP = 178.868 JPY
--
129.99 USD = 88.0954 GBP
US Dollar ↔ British Pound
1 USD = 0.677709 GBP 1 GBP = 1.47556 USD
--
129.99 EUR = 93.6470 GBP
Euro ↔ British Pound
1 EUR = 0.720417 GBP 1 GBP = 1.38808 EUR
[Cont]
[Cont]But the UK are being asked to pay £129.99...
129.99 GBP = 23,258.16 JPY
129.99 GBP = 191.893 USD
129.99 GBP = 180.437 EUR
So we are clearly getting ripped off there but to make matters worse cause we are in the EU we asked if we can order an EU copy instead since it worked out cheaper to purchase an EU copy and we was told yes EU/UK codes work but the store is region locked and the item in question is only available on their store so basically denying a UK citizen from purchasing in the EU to which a few people stated that since we are part of the EU that's basically illegal to do and pointed us to this website for confirmation http://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens...s/index_en.htm
At the very beginning of the site it clearly states

For these types of services, and others, you have the right to buy from a service provider located in another EU country without
price discrimination
having the seller refuse to sell to you simply because you live in a different EU country.
That’s a clear violation what they are doing there! The UK populace of Fans for the Final Fantasy Franchise and the game in question itself have been treated very VERY poorly on this and we need help! As I said earlier we started a forum on the matter but we are all being ignored. Could you please seriously look into this for us.
Many Thanks
Well I don't know about you guys but I'm writing to BBC Watchdog about this! Its sickening they want to do this to ushttps://ssl.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006mg74/contact is the website to make the complaint. I would implore anyone UK and Global to take a few minutes to fill it out and submit. We need to do something about this at the very least get some backing on how unfairly we have been treated.
Also done.
Pretty much put off from buying anything from the EU store atm due to this.

@Riamu
You have nor ights when it comes to these consideration. Your neighbourg cost of living isnt the same as yours (speaking of different countries) the value of USD 10 is not the same in the US for a local then it has for me if I go on holiday. USD 10.-- you do nothing in here where I live, barely you can buy a coffee or two. In Italy a coffee costs around EUR 1, where I live converted is EUR 4.--. Tell me you sure you would spend EUR 90.-- for BASIC game (price of a new game in here where I live) and this allover the world ? when you know that in some countries EUR 90.-- is the monthly wages??
People see only the exchange rate but what you need to look at is what you can do in your country and this of the country you buy it from with the same amount, in my example EUR 90.--
Beside that, there are rules of import/export in each countries, even if I receive a DVD from the US I will pay the difference at the custom, between the price that I paid to buy it and the value it has or would be sold in here where I live.
Mei.
