New player subscription issues

So my husband and I were on the free trial. We really loved that we could play this game with me on the PC and him on the PS4 so we decided to buy the game.

I was under the impression when purchasing that we were actually buying a copy of the game- $25 for PC version and $30 for PS4 version. But when I look at our new accounts it says that I have 30 days left on my subscription.

So it's going to be $55/month for us to play this game each month? Is that right?
We can't do that- that is way too much. I am hoping I am reading this wrong. Can anyone tell me what exactly I just bought and what to expect in the future?

No its about $15 a month per account so $30ish a month. That was just the cost of the game itself.

As Eye_Gore said that was the price of the game. You get a free month with the actual purchase. The their are a variety of sub fees ranging from around $13-$15 a month depending on the length of time you sub for.

Can you play the game at all without a sub?

You have to have a subscription or you can't log in at all. You need to pay the $12.99 or $14.99 a month to even log into the game. So, for you both to play with only one character per server each, it'll cost a total of $26 per month. If you want to have multiple characters on the same server, it'll be a total of $30 a month.

Simply buying the game isn't how most MMOs work - there are only a handful of buy-to-play (buy the game then play without a subscription) games that I can think of.

Basically, you paid $25 and $30 to buy the game (which you did. You actually bought the game), and now you need to pay $13-15 each per month to continue playing the game. If you guys are gamers, then think of it like paying to receive regular DLC packs that add to your gameplay.

Thanks for the clarification; the other mmo's I've played worked differently and I found the set up here confusing. I did think it strange though that it seemed like a flat fee to pay for owning the game forever- but that's what hubby said he'd been told.

ah well. $26 a month isn't bad for 2 accounts; but does mean I'll be canceling my sub to another MMO while we play this.

you don't have to commit to a monthly subscription if you don't desire.
There are time cards available you can purchase, so you can buy or commit to specific periods of time.
