Except that the special events SE ran that were connected with the transition from 1.0 to ARR was deliberate because it was a literal end of the world - ARR completely replaced 1.0 and thus the events leading to the Calamity were a fun way to send the original game off 'with a bang'.

Heavensward on the other hand, is just an expansion pack - it extends the current world and content, but doesn't replace it. Heavensward's storyline will pick up from where 2.55's story will end - it doesn't replace it. Hence, no need for huge 'world ending' events. Everything currently available in ARR will still be available after Heavensward launches.

Also the way the storyline has long stated, that Ishgard is closed off and inaccessible. Thus they're not going to have server-wide events stating "the gates of Ishgard are now open yaddayaddayadda" - any events connected to it will almost definitely require the main scenario to be completed up to 2.55 (SE even stated this in the most recent Letter From the Producer - that to access Heavensward areas and content requires the entire 2.0 storyline to be completed first - all the way up to the yet to come 2.55 story.).

There will most likely be special events celebrating the launch of Heavensward, just not the sort of thing you're hoping for (most likely more low-key affairs where you get a special item, like the Rising which celebrated ARR's first year of service). Face it, the Seventh Umbral Era events of 1.0 are gone forever - we'll never see anything of it's like again.
