Personally I have no issues with tab unless my camera angle is truly horizontal to ground level, generally playing with camera at a 30 degree to 45 degree angle downward can isolate the targets closest to tab through what you are fighting in dungeons and overworld.

My keybind layout has the natural WASD movement with [tab] cycle through enemy, [R] and [F] for enemy list cycling, party members as 1 through 8, and considering cycle through friendlies as [Z] and [X] or having [Z] as target friendly or inanimate such as mining nodes/entrances to dungeons/shortcuts etc... and [X] as talk to NPC/Select target and hit okay to use things, having my keyboard number pad being my hotbar skills Left to Right being [numpad] 7 8 9 4 5 6 1 2 3 / * - taking into account the [shift] and [ctrl] being my hotbars 2 and 3

This layout completely negates the use of the mouse and the arrow keys being a bit blocky can move the camera angles up-down, left-right
