Option to change how Tab Target works

So currently Tab Target (or left and right on the D-Pad on a controller) worked based off your camera. If you're zoomed out, you can choose a target that is actually behind your character, or enemies way off in the distance, or off to the sides instead of the enemy directly in front of you.

I would like it to be based off the direction your character is facing, like almost every other MMO. I find it very hard to reliably choose the target I intend to choose, especially when there is a large group of enemies clustered (garuda's feathers anyone? Takes me ages to target the proper one).

Rather than cycling through all the enemies, there would hopefully be a limit of 3-5 within a certain angle of your character's field of view directly in front of them, or if there is no enemy limit, at least narrow the range it selects from to say, 170 degrees from where you are facing.

I know I'm not the only one who has this issue. I feel discouraged from playing DPS or tanking classes because of the annoyance in selecting the targets quickly when time is a huge factor, and I usually just end up playing as healer.

    *edit*

It's been almost a year since I last visited these forums and there is still the 1000 character limit? SMH... Now I feel discouraged from participating in the forums. So much hassle.

Not that I can't predict whom it will target, I'm getting the hang of it but having to change my camera view in order to target the correct mobs is really annoying.. I'd much rather just zoom out and move my character around to target mobs.
I probably click more in this game than any other MMO I played and that's because the game itself has horrendous UI.

I just can't wait for addons to be implemented.. Oh glorious day when we get addons, soooo looking forward to it

I usually just zoom in, and just include the enemy that I want to target and start cycling.

If I want a far-off target, I either click on it or click on someone left to the enemy and start cycling.

Yea I've done something similar, but it's much worse when using a gamepad, especially because you can't click.

Which actually brings me on to another issue - enemy "clickboxes". They're way too precise! You can't click slightly off the enemy, above or around or in between arms or legs. You have to be really precise and click directly on the enemy. I'd like a small box around the enemy - in between limbs included - to be their "clickbox".

I'm not sure why SE decided to implement tab targeting in this form, it's very weird and I haven't seen any other MMO do it this way. I actually haven't heard many complaints, or requests for a fix either, yet when I mention it people always seem to agree with me.

Try Tabbing when playing Healer... Hello I wanted to switch party members to target. Although I've generally quit doing this, I still use tab to target the closest monster.

Where things get annoying are when you're standing right next to something you should be able to click on, and can't, so immediately you try to tab target, and can't find the target even though you're right in front of it.

I spent hours trying to set up tab target to be able to have a filter, and cycle through party members - it isn't possible, unless you change your keybinds. The Target Filters are referring to the D-Pad left and right, or on a keyboard, the arrow keys on the number pad - 8, 4, 6, and 2. 8 and 2 - or up and down - naturally cycle through party members in the order of the party list. If you have your filter set to friendlies, 4 and 6 - left and right - basically cycle like Tab does, but through what ever your filter is set to.

You last point is my exact frustration. It's pretty difficult to click target sometimes, and when you try to tab it just fails you, and cycles through like 8 different enemies, waaaay off from where the ONE enemy you actually want is.

The horrendous UI of the game takes away a lot from the game play imo.. So when I play healer, I'm always half assing it with my mouseover macros..
I don't move unless it's absolutely necessary, I don't watch the fight, I just have my mouse over the party/alliance UI and just click my mouse side buttons for different heals..

If you're using controller, instead of using the D-Pad, hold down one of the trigger buttons then use the left and right bumpers to tab between enemies.

This is better because it leaves your thumbs free to remain on the joysticks. Which allows you to move your character and the camera so that you can isolate your target on screen (thus less tabbing required).

Personally I would like to see the option for shoulder button + shoulder bumpers to cycle through enemy list and alliance list. or vice versa (triggers & bumpers tab through on screen targets, dpad cycles through enemy list and alliance)

    That'd be sweet.

But yea i never use dpad to cycle targets on controller, it's gross. (well for up/down for party members I use it, meant for tabbing through enemies)

Personally I have no issues with tab unless my camera angle is truly horizontal to ground level, generally playing with camera at a 30 degree to 45 degree angle downward can isolate the targets closest to tab through what you are fighting in dungeons and overworld.

My keybind layout has the natural WASD movement with [tab] cycle through enemy, [R] and [F] for enemy list cycling, party members as 1 through 8, and considering cycle through friendlies as [Z] and [X] or having [Z] as target friendly or inanimate such as mining nodes/entrances to dungeons/shortcuts etc... and [X] as talk to NPC/Select target and hit okay to use things, having my keyboard number pad being my hotbar skills Left to Right being [numpad] 7 8 9 4 5 6 1 2 3 / * - taking into account the [shift] and [ctrl] being my hotbars 2 and 3

This layout completely negates the use of the mouse and the arrow keys being a bit blocky can move the camera angles up-down, left-right
