I agree completely with this. The current setup is barely functional (it reminds me of a yard sale) and it will need more than a bandage eventually, but there are other systems that need more immediate attention. That being said, for the time being we have a system of some kind that meets the most basic needs in an MMO economy and not a drop more, that is to say the ability for players to sell their goods to other players. They gave it a better search function which was a decent bandage for now.
The AH/MW/Other debate at this point should take a back seat to things that are totally absent, like mount systems (which are soon to arrive), mailboxes, complete lack of LS administration tools, 'content', the job system etc... While it might be said that the quality of many existing in game systems is sorely lacking at least those systems exist in some form as opposed to not at all. I'd think one would want to tackle the larger 'not at all' issues before the barely functional (but present) systems we have now.
I bought ffxiv collectors edition and played on release. It was absolutely horrendous and i quit and returned to WoW. 1 year later i returned as i realised it was still free and i must say im impressed with most of it - apart from these terrible market wards and the lack of mail system.
I still cannot believe this is being debated.
If FFXIV carries on then i will continue to play (and pay) but the lack of ah is a complete deal breaker for me and i simple wont play (or pay) for this substandard attempt to run an ingame economy. I feel that right now FFXIV is behind in so many ways (most of which are tolerable) but this one isnt. Please SE, i implore you - add a proper auction house as a priority because the current system is alienating players.

I been off and on playing the game; what turns me off is how hard it is to buy stuff, and how much harder it is to sell stuff. AH in FFXI was great... for items you didn't care much for you can just put up for low amount of gil, and most of the time people bid the going rate. For items you want to get the Gil worth, you can take the time to check the going rate.
Here in FFXIV its a PITA selling. Have to take notes on the items you want to sell, and many of the items you can't find. Takes hours to set up the bazaar.... hours better spent doing something else; or playing FFXI.
Also, NO AH will be a deal breaker for me when this game goes back to pay-2-play.

Is there a dislike button? Because this is not only a grammatical train wreck but an idea i cannot agree with.
um, no. Also I think you are the one needing to grow up silly puppet.

Also there was no AH promised on the box. lrn2read
Unfortunately from what I read we're only getting AH like features added to MW -.-; and this thread will continue to thrive because a lot of people actually want an AH/Broker system. Unfortunate that a few people are too stubborn to realize/accept the fact that their opinion isn't the opinion everyone else has.

I'm betting they keep the markets until 2.0 and then revamp the whole thing to a desirable system. What that system will be is largely dependant on what people talk about on the forums

agreed.
i respect the fact that some like the wards, and you cant deny the new team has improved them by leaps and bounds. at least it is possible to find something in a few min. before it took hours.....literally @@.
i think they have done all they can with the current restrictions from the "old team design" we will have to wait for 2.0 to really see a huge revamp, i do believe we will see it.
persoanlly do i like the wards?....somewhat
do i think its as smooth to use as an ah?.....no
do i want an ah......hmmmm well, yea i do.
will i freak out if they are not added?....nope
would i freak out if mail isnt added?....yup
lol
♥ MORE HIGH HEELS + INSTANCED HOUSING! ♥!

That isn't so much a problem with the mw, and more to do with few people actually crafting and selling low level gear.
personally, I prefer the MW to the inevitable crush of mules who will "occupy" the immediate area around an AH, making said AH horribly lagged due to thier overwhelming prescence.
