Just witnessed a newbie get kicked from Praetorium.

For taking a wrong turn and getting lost for less than a minute...

The person who initiated the kick also berated and insulted the tanks, one of which was new, the other in for the second time, for pulling a few unnecessary mobs.

Jerks who kick for pathetic reasons are one thing and aren't TOO common in my experience, but a majority of people being completely apathetic and either voting Yes to the kick or just not voting is another thing and do indeed seem to be common, as I rarely see a vote kick fail, even wrongful ones. This doesn't even exclusively apply to FFXIV in my personal experience, though for the purpose of this topic I am referring to it.

Very disappointed in people right now. This is not the way to welcome new people to the game.

It's pretty much a small sample of the community, but in the largest form of party (so you would think with the most fair voting going on) saying to the person who got kicked "We won't just kick you for bad reasons sometimes, most of us will sit idly by and do nothing to help you when someone else wants to kick you for bad reasons."

Also didn't mention this originally, but the vote passed while the person being kicked was standing with the group. He had found us during the voting process, and people still kicked him.

Meanwhile, people gladly (some begrudgingly) waited for me to watch all of the cutscenes in my first run (sometimes they didn't wait and just went, i didn't mind though). I also got lost a few times, but people patiently waited for me to catch up, or went back to find me. And that was just a couple days ago. Guess i lucked out.

Must really depend from group to group.

If that person was harassing people in party chat, you could just report them. It's possible they could have qued with a group of friends so they'd have a majority rule regardless how everyone else voted and could act however they wanted without having to worry about getting kicked themselves.

Doesn't need a "majority" - in an 8 player group, you only need 4 votes. That means, 3 people in addition to the one who starts the vote. In my opinion, the person who's to be kicked should have their vote automatically counting as a No - but instead, it is disregarded entirely.

Exactly...I made several posts about this a while back saying the same thing. It's wrong to disenfranchise that one person. People told me I was stupid and spreading ignorance. That's the official forums for you. 4 people being apathetic isn't much better though.

Sadly, rubbish like this is par for the course. Most people are total a-holes and the only real way around that is to pull from an FC. Sure, DF gets good experiences sometimes, but percentage-wise I'd put that in the single digits. BEST case scenario usually means totally silent speedruns that even ignore you when you just say hi.

It's awful, I agree, and I would've voted No if I had been there but this is sadly the state of the community. What's really horrifying is that I've been told by many people that FFXIV is the best mmo community they've ever seen. That's disturbing. I shudder to think what other mmos are like.

If all it took was for one person to start a kick and everyone else would go along, regardless of right and wrong, maybe I should have been less tolerant and started the kick on the person who started the kick. It takes a lot for me to initiate a vote kick on someone though, and the person started their kick before I was at that point, so it was too late by that time.

I've reported people before. It really doesn't do much good I believe. GMs have stated themselves that you can kick people for "having a different playstyle", that can apply to pretty much anything, so yeah...

Well, sadly, with SE's policies of "If it's a player dispute, we stay out of it" and "If the majority of players decides this is a no cutscene run, kicking for watching cutscenes is okay", we're essentially in a state of "Who kicks first, wins" when it comes to evenly matched camps of opinions. If they changed it to require a true majority, on the other hand, we'd get stuck with premade groups of 2 in 4 player dungeons trolling at will without any chance for the other 2 people to do anything about it. As long as SE sticks with their "Kick or be kicked" attitude and doesn't do anything to cull abuse, there's nothing we can do. Next time you meet someone you consider to be an unfriendly, problematic person, maybe you should initiate a kickvote on them before they initiate one on somebody else. Fighting fire with fire isn't fine, but there are no other options available to legit players.

Yeah, reporting is useless. GM told me it wasn't "Vote Kick Abuse" when a jerk tank initiated a kickvote on someone who was new to Turn 1 of Coil for causing 2 wipes after nobody bothered to tell him how the mechanics work. Even the GM agreed that it wasn't nice, but that's SE's policy - they don't get involved. This game is a haven for jerks and cheaters, it's sad.

Recently, I saw someone quit out on their own because they got completely left behind. It wasn't even that they were watching each and every cutscene either, it's just that they weren't even being directed in any way and got lost. I tried to talk them into staying but they were very upset and just bailed. It ruined their experience and I'm sure this happens more often than not. It's unfortunate but seeing as this has been an issue since 2.0, I don't think anything will ever be done about it.

People need to learn to be a little more patient.

... except, in an 8 player group where the one person being kicked doesn't count, 4 out of 7 is a majority. I agree with you that the person being kicked should be given at least some say in the matter though.
