I think their biggest mistake was not having more visibility for this planned maintenance. Yes, it was on the lodestone... However, the usual "maintenance will be occurring" message was not there upon logging in to the launcher. So, a lot of people who are used to seeing it there (and feel no need to look at the lodestone) were caught by surprise. Also, as far as I noticed, that was no ingame notice or system message. I would have actually preferred if they just told us the servers would be down, rather than doing a live maintenance without notifying us of the maintenance through the client in the usual way. Anyway, I think I'm just going to give up and head to bed. I desperately need to catch up on sleep anyway.

If I had to guess about the live maintenance, I am hoping maybe they are testing server upgrades for Heavensward. After all, the game ALREADY has connection issues (not talking about just latency) during prime time, and that is only going to get 'worse' with more zones and more instances. So, I can only assume they plan to improve their datacenters in some way. That's really just a guess for me, because I can't think of much else they would do with a live maintenance. Maybe they will tell us when it's over.
