And threads about this still keep popping up...? I really fail to see why people are so surprised about this.

PC, or rather Windows, is one platform system - let's say two, because there's also Steam. PS4 is another system - and I assume PS3 is too. X1 is yet another system. OSX's gonna be, again, another system. That's 5(+1) different systems the game has to be developed for, which is resources, time and money, all of which has to be paid.

They all have their own online account management, their own servers, their own network, their own authentications. Your SE account has you linked to the servers where your characters, savegames and platform-licenses are stored. That's it, that's all there is to it, that's what you access when you log in and link something to your SE account. If you enter a PC code, it will know that you bought the game for PC (either bare Windows or Steam), it will allow you to play on PC. It will not magically enable you to download and play on PS4, because you have not entered a PS4 code - also Sony's own network won't have its database refreshed from SE's servers that you have bought the game, so Sony will have no idea either. Same applies to X1 and the same will apply to Mac.

I really don't know why this is such a difficult concept to grasp. Especially when it's been the same with ARR last year. (The upgrade campaign has been a special deal, I'd guess both because Sony wanted to make its new console as appealing as possible and because SE wanted to help its players, well, upgrade.)
