Nobody forced you to skip, in fact, from your story, you did NOT skip the cut scene..
Sure the tank was an asshole for not waiting the 30 seconds for a boss introductory cut scene, but if you want to experience the fight, you could always just run it once more, you probably will run it again in the near future anyway for other reasons..

Even BETTER suggestion: Skip the cutscene, do the fight, go back to inn, watch the cutscene!

Even if the majority of the party wants to progress without watching cutscenes, I will still offer up a compromise. I will tell the new players they can either come with us and watch in the inn, or watch all of the cutscenes at their leisure, as the rest of us thin the herds of enemies ahead.

The latter option is being generous to the new player, while letting vets do SOMETHING useful, instead of sitting on their hands for 30 minutes.

Often when I suggest this, the new player appreciates the compromise in their favor.

Of course this is not always the case. Many demand too much of the other seven players, and refuse to compromise even then.

Hey, I fixed that for you. Because your suggestion is applicable to both newbies and vets, not explicitly vets. Nobody is excused from being able to ask someone they have partied with before (or even in shout), if there is a more useful way to form 8 player parties.
DF is indeed a randomizer of newbies and vets, and therefore zero people should have preexisting expectations on what the party makeup will be.

Lacking a fresh 50 healer won't wipe anyone in 8 man content.

    What/Where is this Inn?

I don't care too much if people kill off trash mobs but OP was outside the boss area and was locked out when the encounter was started. I think most of them are like 15 secs. A lot of the story mode main quest line cut scenes are longer than that.

Keyword "Risk." But yeah I'm sure if the rest of the party is well or over geared for the encounter it won't be an issue. I've two manned lower level roulette bosses (BRD and WHM) when mistakes were made. It's kind MORE fun LOL. Also Stone Vigil is 4 man 41-43 so I'm not sure the same is applicable as in your 8 man example.

The topic is locking out cut scene viewers by other players who don't want to wait though. Just like on this forum and on Reddit we're expecting our peers to tag their posts with spoilers as a courtesy new players would like to experience the content along with the encounter not afterwards.

There are three inns, accessible via the innkeepers in each city's Adventurers' Guild.

The lockout policy for bosses (once engaged) is exactly 15 seconds (according to the popup), which means 15 is enough... that said, if an agreement is made at the beginning of a dungeon, as the GMs suggest, such a thing shouldn't be such a surprise to any involved.

I don't support asking first-timers to watch cutscenes after the fact for most story content. Events at the Praetorium, for example, make little sense without them.

While I have zero patience for players who want to stop and smell the roses for the hundredth time, I do have patience for first-timers.

As do I. they can spend a full hour watching the cutscenes for all I care. Their choice. It doesn't really affect the rest of the team.

What does affect the rest of the team is those who spend even half as long as that, and demand the rest of the party do jack squat waiting for them. One or the other, people.

There's no simple solution, as I have to agree that no single person's time is more important than anyone else's.

Personally I'm inclined to wait for new people and allow them to experience both cutscenes and gameplay, but if the party insists on moving ahead, that's a valid choice.

However, I do think that it makes for a better community to help new players have a good experience, so it's always my hope that parties will choose to accommodate new players to a reasonable degree (if it takes them 5 min to watch what should be a 30 sec cutscene, that's an imposition and not reasonable).
