    Why, after nearly a year in development, have we never gotten a slither of information or acknowledgement at this apparent problem that has been since Alpha.

    Despite claiming what such a great engine (Crystal Tools) can accomplish, it cannot accomplish this simple Draw Distance Quality issue that has never gotten talked about by any dev post, or in any producer's letter. It is as if since launch they just gave up and never touched on any subject graphically related.

    Can I get some answers as to why I have to play with this magical wave of graphical clarity that sweeps the ground and mountains the closer I get to them.

    WoW I had mine both on standard and highest and never saw the diff. But can you please tell me what the issue is here?


    Magical waves i always thought that was due to you loading the area there a set range how much a player can load so when you move front and back the wave move with your range. Because unlike FFXI you load the full area each zone and in FFXIV you have to load the each part of the area over/over again every time you walk by or at least that how it seem like it with the wave you talking about.

    I, too, have wondered about this. I pondered whether it was supposed to be covered up by Depth of Field, but, seeing as I never have it turned on, I simply don't know. While it is a very minor annoyance, we should keep in mind that Crystal Tools is evidently polygon-intensive. Whereas a typical game would minimize polygon count in exchange for hi-res skins, FFXIV tries to go for both.

    It is indeed supposed to be covered up by depth of field, however, I don't use it because it gives me an FPS hit and the effect is excessively strong.

    I have depth of field on and i think i still see the waves i check it out next time i log in.

    It does still happen even with depth of field on. I do believe the only time you wouldn't be able to witness it properly would be if your running under very low settings.

    Yeah its this way for me too. Wish when it was on higher settings it would push this to farther away then keeping it the same.

    I also see it even on max settings. It's large curves that are the culprit, because a flat object is either in focus or out of focus depending on the distance, where as this wall curves away causing the front part of it to be closer to the camera than the back thus getting split depth.

    I agree this needs addressing as it bugs the hell out of me.

    I see. I don't remember noticing it back in beta when I still had DoF on and being somewhat surprised to find such a jarring texture quality drop off for distant objects.

    Like i said before there loading zones while you walk you load the area this is the wave you seeing. There is no Zone so to fix this issue you load the area as you walk which really does suck lol.
