Oh no not more main quests, they are one of the more boring aspects in this game imo. And they are required to do certain content. It's just so silly.
Especially if you like me have multiple level 50 characters and need to talk to npcs for 3 hours+ just to be able to do a dungeon/trial.

They should make the main quest optional cause some of us don't like running around like a sillyhead talking to everyone

So they should make the story optional in an RPG?
    Um okay

Clearly, the best Final Fantasy character is Locke Cole.

Well they shouldn't lock content behind all those quests.
If it wasn't for mog hm, snowcloak, shiva and that other trial I wouldn't do it.

Or they could make it more fun, or challenging. Cause right now 90% of the quests are all like "Take this bread to my friend on the other side of the world, and then talk to me again" "Oh you're back! Okay, well talk to that guy over there!"

I like that you have to do story content to get into the expansion. Now I really REALLY want a new server for 3.0 to start a new character on x.x.

While I do think that certain things should be optional for replay, like if you make an alt you have these options available to you already, you should still have to initially play through the story in a story-driven game.

Let's say you start the game and get a character to level fifty doing leves or sidequests or something. No touching the story.
All right, you're level fifty now, cool. Want to go to Coil? Well, why should Alisaie trust you with something like this? You haven't proven that you're worth her time.
EX Primals? What makes you think Urianger should trust you with beating such strong monsters; heck how does he even know you would be able to survive an encounter with them? None of the Scions know you have the Echo, because you never talked to them.

I mean, if you really hate the story that much, just skip what people are saying and all the cutscenes like people apparently do.

(And yeah, I too think that quests should be a bit more exciting than, "go over to the other side of the world, oh nevermind we need you back here now" but it's something I'm willing to do to play the content I want to play...)

Hmm... current content which is locked away behind story modes include the following:

Coil of Bahamut - Unlocked after Praetorium
Amdapor Keep (and by extension, Amdapor Keep Hard Mode) - Again, unlocked after Praetorium
Ramuh and Shiva Trials - as part of the continuing story.
Snowcloak (and by extension, HM roulettes)
Keeper of the Lake (and by extension, EM roulettes)

Is it really a surprise that you'd need to have worked towards the story to get into Ishgard when it's canon that they've closed their doors to outsiders? You earn the right to enter by doing the fights as a Scion.

However, the story is not needed for ALL expansion content. It's for Ishgard entrance only as far as I can tell. There will be plenty of zones and content you can enjoy as part of the expansion without having progressed too far into the story, just not the city we've been waiting for since 1.0.

In wow vanilla there was no main quest. If I wanted to do a dungeon I could just get a group and walk right into it. Thats why I'm kinda disappointed that in this game everything is locked behind quests. Every dungeon (although the quests to unlock level 50 dungeons are short so im okay with that) and mostly everything is locked behind quests. Want to use glamours? Need to be level 50 and do a quest. Want to unlock housing wards? Need to do a quest. I just think its a silly approach and I think that when we are in the appropiate level we should have them unlocked automatically.

    1) A lot of players want a REASON for this to exist. Why are we suddenly able to summon a magical barber into our inn room? Why are we suddenly able to turn our heavy plate armor into a bikini? Explanations are important.
    2) A lot of these need an explanation. Players respond better to an NPC telling them how it works rather than a pop-up tutorial screen. This isn't true for everyone, but it's true for a lot of people.
    3) It's important to know where the heck this stuff is. The glamour quest is important because it not only tells you how to do it and why you're able to do it, but hooks you up with the NPC who can sell you the blank glamour prisms and dispellers.
TERA and WoW both did this too, with things like dungeons, attunements, and whenever they added a new feature. They just did it earlier OR you were already at the correct level when it was released. FFXIV staggers content so you're not overwhelmed, nor do you accidentally spend 20k gil on glamour prisms on gear you replace in 2 levels, leaving you with no money for teleports or repairs.

And it won't be unlocked account-wide because this game isn't designed for alts. It's designed with the idea that you'll have ONE character with all the classes. The only reason to have multiple characters is bank space, endgame content lockouts, experiencing the differences in the early quests based on city state, and gold saucer stuff. Raising a completely different character just to play a different class is actually hampering your main character's abilities since those crossclass skills are important.
So, in a way, this is self-imposed on your part since you're going against what the system was designed for.
