Can't Decide if I want to use Controller or Keyboard/Mouse...

I mean, Keyboard/Mouse is so great and perfect at everything, y'know? It just feels so much more fluid to me and easier to use. Reaction times are so much quicker, navigating menus is a breeze, socializing with friends is 50000% simpler, but while leveling up I noticed something...

Hand-over quests with a controller is the best thing since sliced bread.

    Decisions, decisions, my friends...

Ask yourself: How often do you hand over a quest? And how many time to you spend with menus, talking to friends, reacting to certain things...? I've ever only played with mouse&keyboard so I cant really jusge about controller... but if you're only reason are quests to turn in... phew... its not as if this game would be about turning in quests all the time in the end...

Having played with both, I perfer keyboard and mouse hand over fist.
That having been said, using a controller is intuitive, straight forward, easy and quick. There is no detriment outside of socialization with the controller taken a little time to adjust.
Oh, and they altered quest handins with the keyboard and mouse, right click the slot for the quest hand in, it'll pop up the item that goes there.

Personally I hate keyboard/mouse. I mean, I DO play on laptop so I must plug in my mouse, however I also must plug in my controller so it's no big deal.

Personally I just find fighting, movement... pretty much everything except precise targeting and chatting much more easier with a controller. It's really down to your own personal style.

At the moment I even really have more of a hybrid set-up...much of my HUD I control with my touchpad however I actually play the game with my controller. (And, obviously, I chat with my keyboard.)

While I do think the targeting could use a bit of....adjustments... it's not enough to make me switch back to using only keyboard/mouse. If I'm really in a pinch and for some reason the controller has wigged out and won't give me my target I need, I just reach over and mouse select it like a lazy bum. Whatever.

For me, it depends entirely on what class I'm playing. As a Scholar, I love keyboard - more space on toolbars to have everything at my fingertips. For some of the dps DoW classes, I love controllers - rotations are a lot easier, and the movement is a lot more fluid for me there so I don't get camera screwed as often

I started using controller just for fishing (vibrating controller while i stream a movie, hit hook/recast macro w/o having to flip back to ff14) Then started botany/miner with controller (kick back n recline)

Evantually moved into DoW/DoM with controller when I found the L+R trigger's 3rd accessible crossbar in character config (ie: hold left trigger, keep holding it and then hold right trigger as well to access a 3rd crossbar)

with a toggle for crossbars 1 and 2, plus the L+R triggers to access 3rd crossbar, felt i had as much keybind options as keyboard. just when bored I started laying actions down on the crossbars for jobs

I started to find some really interesting crossbar layouts that were a lot of fun, made me revisit a lot of classes i don't use as much anymore

Even my Warrior now, really liking it's crossbar layout.

Target cycling can be harder with controller imo, but it isn't an issue if ya manipulate the camera properly (tabbing only tabs through enemies visible on screen)

also, if holding down one of the trigger buttons and ya press one of the bumper buttons, that works the same as tabbing (and is a lot easier than using the dpad, becuase it lets you keep your thumbs on the joysticks).

tl;dr : the longer i use controller the more intuitive it becomes,

and my mouse is never far from my hand should i need it

When handing in some quests, with one item... I just spam the 0/Ins (zero/insert) key on the keypad.

    I have a PS4 - but I'm terrible with the controller, so it's used for mainly gathering/fishing.
Otherwise, for now, my PS4 is a paperweight.

I played a char up to 50 on pc, then bought a ps4 for destiny and decided to give ffxiv a chance on ps4. when comparing the 2 i think they both have strengths and weaknesses (usb keyboard for ps4 is an absolute must!) i prefer using the ps4 controller to play the game. (i also have a xbox 360 controller for pc, didn't care for it much).
that said, i would suggest using both for an extended time, a quick chance here and there isn't going to leave a lasting impression on most people.
with a toggle for crossbars 1 and 2, plus the L+R triggers to access 3rd crossbar, felt i had as much keybind options as keyboard. just when bored I started laying actions down on the crossbars for jobs
when i found out about this feature, playing jobs with a bunch of different abilities was much easier. I put cooldowns on the secondary crossbar and a quick 2 button change and i have access to 32 buttons not just the 16 on one crossbar.

Pro tip for turn in quests with Mouse/KB - Right click the empty slot for turn in and every copy of the item you have pops up in a convenient little drop-down menu.

Things you can't do nearly as easily with Controller.
    -Micromanage placement of pets
-Heal alliance members (if there is a way, it's much more convoluted)
    -Aim Caster LB.
    -Aim things like cannons.
-Reaction times slowed on healer (Debatable if you have an amazing hotbar setup or great macros.)

    Things you can do -
    Sit on the couch.
