It shouldn't be a tank from the beginning. I'm not a XI player and don't know what happened to XI nin but it seems like they messed it up and made it a tank job unintentionally.

ninja is like an assassins + a spy. they shouldn't be fighting face to face like a paladin or a warrior. it doesn't make sense lore wise.
