Sword based DPS class?

If they did gunblade dps job, then the gun part of the weapon could be used for its ranged attack, like how a dragoon throws its lance, but most of the attacks could be melee range strikes with the blade of the weapon.

have you never played final fantasy 8? its more like a shotgun/revolver. its only used during a close range attack. the 'trigger' activates during use, and YOU have to pull it. Sure they could HAVE a ranged attack, but it would be like the paladin, dragoon...possibly the marauder, havn't played that class yet. Otherwise just pure hack and slashing goodness.

Fencer would be cool, I would like samurai to be a tank, but it could work for DPS too

i dunno. I've never-liked fencing. In a real fight if you were to use a rapier, it would only be good for that one fight. One miss, or parry with a solid sword would damage or bend the blade so i never saw it for an armor attacking weapon. But i'd love to see the gunblade, as i said before, but aside from that, a pirate class could be added. Sabers being their forte, using pistols to attack from range, or even just pistol offhand, sword mainhand sort of thing.

FFVIII's gunblade is actually completely different in concept to the Garlean gunblades shown here in FFXIV however - here it is actually more a pistol with a very long bayonet attached to the side of the barrel, with the gun's muzzle clearly visible (End of an Era clearly shows Garlean centurions shooting at Alliance soldiers with them accordingly). Thus any hypothetical ginblade class would be more leanign to the gun side than the sword side of it.

actually the 'normal unit' ones were fighting with the same one leon used. But there were other versions yes.

if I remember right, Fencer was a Melee/DoT/agility/caster class I think from the tactics games, I would very much like this job, I think it would be fun
