Live Letters with no translator

Live translations is a difficult skill to start with, and doing them for a game is even more difficult since whoever's doing the translating needs to know a lot about the game, and in most instances about the lore, in order not to accidentally give away too much info, or mistranslate things completely. The letter where they do have live translations are often (partially) prepared beforehand and don't have any surprise questions.

Considering the upcoming one is mostly about the CE, and not about actual game content, I guess they could've done a live translation, but then people will start to expect live translations for every live letter

I know it won't really help, but there was someone who did a few of them (though I don't know his complete name). I used to call them "Cygne" and their name is something like "Cygnekyou..." something. I'll research a bit on that.

It's fan made though, so if they do not translate a Live Letter at some times don't resent them

They are a massive company they could translate it a lot faster, Reinheart used to translate extremely fast and he wasn't even being paid to do it and much of the time had other things to do in between translating so how you think they are doing it as fast as they can is anyone's guess.

They might say they are doing it as fast as they can, but I very much doubt they are.

It should have never been left for the community to translate in the first place, it just screams lazy and shows an attitude of disinterest to non Japanese speakers.

Don't get me wrong when they do make an effort like at PAX they did a great job and the translator did an amazing job, they should prob put more effort in to translating these letters leading up to the expansion because everyone has a lot of questions they want answered.

Just as a side question, what did happen with Rienhart? Did SE hire him? I knew something happened because he had at some point stopped doing translations for us but I must have missed what exactly. I know he used to post on the forums occasionally too with always helpful posts.

There is an entire profession that provides simultaneous translation service. Seems like they could contract a translator for all of these "live" events if they gave a damn at all about keeping non-Japanese customers informed.

with their current resources* If enough people in the various language communities are upset enough eventuall Square Enix would undoubtedly figure out something to reprioritize the translation, even if the aren't live.

If they could at least say why they don't do it with live translations i would be fine but the fact that they are just keeping some in the dark just annoys me personally. SE knows they have a large english player base but the fact they don't do it is just odd. I know this may be a bad comparison but i'm still gonna make it xD. The fact the during PAX they had a english translator more people watched, for example when i was watching i got every bit of detail because me as a english speaker could only understand english and felt more sucked in by the stream. On the other hand Live Letter less watch because they know its japanese only, the reason why they tell us is because they want us to watch it everyone try and watch it but they wont because no english (not counting small titles and sentences on a slide as english translation even though it is i want the details they are talking about). Not sure about this part but if im wrong please correct me, They ask us to give them questions for them to answer during the live stream but then it ends up being Japanese only...so what was the point of asking questions if we don't understand the question or the answer?

As someone said they may say they are doing it fast but lets be honest they are not, i mean if a guy can live translate and get most of it correct then it just shows they are not going as fast as they could. I don't want to cause any arguements though im just stating my opinion the matter and i just want to hear what most of you guys think.

Live translation is fine as it is, because it cost way too much...
We are getting fast and good summery from Questions in forums, its ok!
The problem i really have and why i am so upset is, that they used to have subbed videos some weeks later...
For any unknown reason they stopped to sub them and just give larger forum summeries - i do not like those!

As some already said, players are no longer watching it and wait for translated videos made by fans or websites with photos...

Although there always seems to be somebody live translating anyways I have to agree with the OP that SE should be doing official live translations for these letters. I find it very unfair to the non-JP community that we need to rely on some random person to translate for us out of the good of their heart. If they have the ability to translate some things like fan fest, then I would say they have the ability to translate live letters too.

That said, I have to give a warm thank you to those people who translate for us, without them we would truly be at a loss here. In my opinion the Q&A just doesn't cut it compared to actually watching the live letter.. live and in addition to that they don't release a translated subtitled version weeks later like they used to which makes the situation even worse.
