I am not saying that is the only reason why should stay as it is. It is one of the reasons, I listed others. You're all saying it's too much effort to change this one thing, but this game needs a ton of QoL updates. This is just 1 of them. You could take any good QoL suggestion and say its not worth doing because it's only small, but that is the point, lots of small changes make a big difference.
I think something like this would be a nice QoL change. It has been done in other games without issue, even with the gear sharing aspects. Ultimately its not a particularly difficult thing to do. Just waiting until all players who are eligible to need to make a choice, and if any rolled need, have the roll-off then.
Questing is like participating in an Old Spice Commercial - Talk to me, talk to him, talk to me, talk to him, Now Talk To Me...Sadly, you are not done, back to him, look there, its that mob I never liked, back to me, back to him...I'm in the Waking Sands.
And I didn't say that it's too much effort to change it. I will now though. You're all saying it's too much effort to change this one thing, but this game needs a ton of QoL updates. I'm saying that there is no point to designing potentially a hugely complex loot system just because you're unhappy with waiting. The Loot system right now groups roles in together. Not just the loot system but the the gear itself would need to be reworked to specifically show as just PLD or just WAR (even though they mostly share things) according to code and then the new Loot system would need to be coded to understand that. So then a WAR can Need WAR gear (even though it's usually shared) and it goes straight to them. Otherwise, it won't work because SMN and BLM both use the same pieces and so do healers and tanks.
Your QoL adjustment is asking for gear to be individually recognizable to the Loot system for specific jobs (SMN for SMN, BLM for BLM etc) and for a Loot system capable of doing that with no mistakes.
And guess what? This can all be managed by asking, "Please lot or pass."
And all this isn't even taking into consideration the restrictions they've already placed in the current Loot system that's meant to stop abuse.
And this wouldn't work for the OP as they said that they want the Needed item to be able to fall to them instantly. It's not taking into consideration that their other partner might not Need on it until later, which means still waiting, which is what they don't wanna do.

Ophie, why are you finding this so hard to understand? You're missing the point entirely but everyone else gets it.
From what I was able to tell, the point was that you didn't want to wait for Needed gear to drop. You wanted to lot and it instantly drop to you. I explained to you why this wouldn't work for all content, which is you missing the point because you just want your gear. I also explained why your request wouldn't work within the current Loot system and that it wasn't a simple QoL fix as you think it is.
Also, not everyone is agreeing with you so no, not everyone else is apparently "getting it."
Any loot drops and 2/8 people can roll NEED? If either (or both) of those people roll NEED then there's no point to wait for the other 6 since none of those 6 can win the roll. That's all that's being asked for. If both of the 2 roll GREED or PASS, then you wait for the other 6 because then their choice means something. And I didn't say that it's too much effort to change it. I will now though.

Just because they don't agree doesn't mean they don't understand. And you're saying stuff like
There wont be another person rolling need later on because there is nobody else who CAN roll need because I am the only ..one.. who.. can ...
The OP clarified later that they wanted the loot to fall to them instantly after they pressed NEED (assuming they're the only one that's allowed to roll NEED on that piece of gear). And this wouldn't work for the OP as they said that they want the Needed item to be able to fall to them instantly. It's not taking into consideration that their other partner might not Need on it until later, which means still waiting, which is what they don't wanna do.
Except that this only considers content where there is one of everything...like...4-man dungeons...which...are...not...the...only content...the loot...system works for....
Ps. And once again doesn't consider that there can be doubles of the DPS!![]()
