    i suspect tht items will turn into similar materia but not the same. Like an iron dagger may turn into a +3vit +3 dex or a +3 vit, or mabe it would be +3 strenth +4 strength +5 strength. What i dont see happeing is an iron dagger being +5 magic accuracy, +3 vit, or regen effect.

    im cool with randomness.. it promotes trading materia with other players.

    I hope it does have some randomness to it... More fun to roll the dice and see what you get... And if it's not what you want, you can always sell it and and buy the one you need from another player.... And who knows, maybe the one you get is worth more than the one you want. :P

    Would suck if it wasn't random... That'd mean if you wanted a certain materia, but the only gear that gave it was either from another classes gear or a PoS item, then yeah... Knowing SE, after the whole crafting fiasco bit, they'd probably make caster materia come from axes or something.

    I don't think it's completely random as some may suggest, I think it's a variance. Example:

    Gear X can convert into Materia A I/II or Materia B I/II.

    I think it'll more along these lines, not 100% random.

    I guess I'll just take my own advice.
    Don't sweat the details and get my gil ready.

    Grinding for gil is never a waste of time if everything has a price.
    Got any tips for farming gil? Other than levees I got nothing. I can't even get my retainer in ul'dah to even sell goods.

    Check the wards, find out what crafters want, find what drops it, kill em good.

    Specifics vary by server, but ultimately anything with a high turn over or value is worth the time to farm.

    check for hot items in the market, if there are any that are way under cut buy them and sell them just under others. this is risky cause someone may still under cut you, but if you buy it low enough you'll still be able to sell it at cost. ive done it with +2 tarred pants, people are selling them for 1-2mil, i see a pair for 800k buy them list them at 1 mil and make 200k for nothing.

    If they were completly static it would be bad for the market, and elietests would jump straight on it.

    Adding an amount of randomness to materia allows differant gear to be useful for materia, and the part that mentions some trends completly dismisses the idea that it is completly random, I could see it that a sword (linked with GLD) will become things like STR DEX and VIT+, a staff and wand will be linked with INT MND PIE and possibly MACC and MATK (if those stats are in game, not played DoM much) which is the logical step.

    With this you could see an Iron Spatha become somthing like DEX+2 STR+3 VIT+5 but another Iron Spatha could become VIT+3 STR+4 materia the first one would be better, but the second would still be useful.

    Also it could be made with the crafting changes that using HQ gear will increase the chances of getting a higher grade materia. All of these would allow most gear to me useful for materia.

    random is better. it seems like items of the same type will drop the same types of materia but of different grades. Ex: hemp would drop grade I-II, cotton II-III, canvas III-IV, velveteen IV-V. atleast that makes the most sense to me.

    @Delsus i love the sig ^_^
