Helping Calamity's Orphans, In-game and IRL

The refugee town outside Ul'dah, the 'sweets' for the Gridanian kids Botanist quest...all the stories of those suffering from the Calamity are heartbreaking. Why is there not an organization in Eorzea that is actively helping them, fundraising and providing aid? NPCs with new quests could be introduced; all the gil spent on vanity outfits or adventurer housing could be donated to helping build homes for the homeless, creating jobs, etc. A whole world needs help to rebuild itself.

It would be great if, say for every 10,000 or 100,000 gil donated, Square also agreed to donate x amount of (currency) to an international relief organization such as The International Red Cross or UNICEF. Let's help save the real world while we help save our online one.

That's interesting, I'll give you that. I think it sort of puts a dollar value on gil, which I think they want to avoid / RMT discussion stuff.

But I must admit, it would be really awesome, if they had a Charity fund, and if all of the players started donating like 100,000,000 g for each homeless NPC . . . suddenly, every NPC would be super duper wealthy . . . Rev Toll would be fully constructed after next patch. NPC's would likely stop charging us 100K for silly items for relic quests (*chuckles*)

While I applaud the sentiment, I highly doubt that SE will do what you suggested simply for the fact that gil has no real word value and so SE will most likely not be willing to spend real world money based on the usage of an in-game currency.

However, they could create special items (vanity gear, minions, etc.) that would be sold via the mog station for money and then donate a percentage of the proceeds to a notable charity with a good track record. My vote would go to Doctors Without Borders as I have been a longtime supporter of them.

A very interesting idea. Were I a more wealthy man irl I would probably (okay, maybe) donate to an organization like that. But, since I am not, something like this would definitely be interesting. I mean, I dunno, personally I can't help but be a bit greedy with my money. My universe is composed of just me and my immediate family and friends. So, quite frankly, that's all I care about.

I never said I was a great humanitarian. But if once in a while, if I happened to have gil that I wanted to donate to an npc that in turn helped a real world organization, that would be pretty cool and I would feel good about it.

World of Warcraft did exactly that, they sold a minion and gave it's proceedings to the Red Cross.

I don't care about any Hyur or Elezen children, and that's all they bothered to model in this game.

Maybe when we see some Lalafell, Miqote, Au Ra, and Roegadyn kids...maybe i'll care.

A minion, or special items are great ideas, very doable and easily trackable where money is concerned. Also, the donations could possibly be considered tax-deductible in the U.S. (SE, if you're reading this, what do you think?) Sekmet, I too have often wondered at the lack of children - of any race - in Eorzea. Perhaps that is an area SE would rather not delve into. After all, our characters have no specified age. At least we can marry now.

What I'd like to see is a visible effort of Eorzeans rebuilding - and not just warships, but more small villages. This could provide more quests with a humanitarian theme. And, as most of you have mentioned, it would be nice to think that we can help our world while playing in another.

Perhaps the minion could be a child that we 'adopt'?

1 - SE has us donate gil to an "NPC" (just an SE Employee's account)
2 - SE sets up their own RMT website and sells us the gil back
3 - SE gives all of that money to charity
4 - SE then deletes the shit out of your character for buying gil

    THAT'S altruism.
