PS3 --> PS4 Upgrade?

The question is, what do they gain by taking the PS3 copy? Who'd buy a PS3 copy when they have it on PS4?

I mean, the only reason I even care is because I want to update the game's files before doing the transfer since it's going to stop me from playing for up to a week.

The back story is this. PS3 version launched first and PS4 took another 6 months* to be released. People purchased the PS3 version to hold them over until they could play it on PS4 and the upgrade as a thank you of sort for those who had to wait for the PS4 version. It was never meant to be a one purchase buys all option.
