Any hopes of getting a new server with the expansion ?

well as far as I can think of solution they can always merge some servers to make 1 or 2 orso completely empty and then use one as a new one for the expansion.
there are more then 1 solutions just a matter of them wanting to implement it or not.

btw just wondering how do you people know or where can you see what the server population is ?

Some sites show activity and the forums tend to give hints, when you see people complain that they want to transfer, because they can not find people to play with. Then there are players who joined certain servers and spend time so they experience how the population is. Naming lookout is also a way to see if a server is full or not. A fine example would be Balmung, Balmung has alot of players and no new player can join that server untill there is low activity, which means that you need to create a character in the early morning 4 AM -5 AM to get a spot there. On my server Ragnarok, I had to wait untill 4 AM, because the server was full from 10 AM till 4 AM.
I am always a supporter of server mergers, but how will they fix this:
- Names, who gets which name, since some players might have the same name and surname, it would not be fair to take their names away from them.
- Housing plot, which free company gets their plot, keeps their plot or losses their land, because a certain area has no free plots left.

Unless SE can fix this issue in a fair way so no player gets screwed, I will not expect any merger in the comming years.

It's funny I remember trying to make a new character on a EU server (im from EU so why not?) only one open was Zodiark lol. Honestly it wouldn't surprise me if they did open like 2 servers or 3.

They cannot make this work for everyone, either you want more people on the server or ... people will always complain and never will be satisfied with anything.

What would the point of this be? It might be cool if server transfers were not allowed and everyone started from level 1, but even then it is so fast to catch up on things in this game I doubt it would get much popularity.

There is always someone who wants a new server, and I never really understood why. Server firsts? Is it really that important? Beneficial? Whats so great about a "fresh start"? You level up, maybe have more players to play with for that month or so who'd be leveling up with you, but everyone goes at a different pace so ... not really. May be even be worse since old servers have more 50's with all content unlocked on PF. Once you get to end game you have a tougher time getting groups as other players are still catching up. Market might be cheaper but also less stocked. Not to mention the good chance it'll be one of the least populated servers in the game until the next new server.

So basically they want SE to invest in a new server despite the handful of low populated servers available, so they can have a fresh start in a relatively empty server, go through all the drawbacks of a new game with the same amount of leveling players as an older server (at best), less end game players, smaller market ... and to top it off, itll just be another low populated server on the list within a few months. Nope, dont get it.

They aren't going to unnecessarily piss off entire servers just so a few people can have a fresh start. And trust me, with the issues Laerune mentioned as well as being forced to transfer just so someone else can take over their server they will be pissed off. No amount of wishful thinking will make it happen. There's not even a "maybe" about it. Unless 3.0 sees every existing server full to bursting it will never happen because (like Kayoz said) there will just be another underpopulated server.

Not only that, but the DF... both its good points and bad points... will be the same even on these smaller or newer servers. Won't change the player's content experience.

I just hope they will really move eu data centers in europe. It would save lots of problems. They said it was going to happen when 3.0 releases but i won't believe them until i see an official announcement in the news section.
