Amalj'aa's weakness to water. Do they hate the rain too?

Looking back at the Amalj'aa beastmen quests, you are told that because the Amalj'aa are creatures of flame, they cannot stand water and drinking even just a small amount can be poisonous to their bodies. Now this has me wondering one thing: do the Amalj'aa cower in fear whenever it rains? If rain does affect them, then shouldn't all the Amalj'aa in Eastern Thanalan be seeking shelter whenever rain starts to pour?

Or am I overlooking something again?

The quest you're speaking of does still specify that they require a small amount of it to live, so this is likely just the Amalj'aa interpreting their lizard-like traits through the lens of their affinity with flame. Reptiles don't need much water since they have different waste-management / metabolic standards comparative to birds/mammals, especially if they take some of it in via the food they consume. Similarly, on the interpretation front, water is poisonous to everything in high amounts - even humans. Still, they see it through their fire-loving culture and probably interpret it a little differently based on that, where throwing water on Amalj'aa is probably like... Dothraki braid-cutting, or FPS tea-bagging, or getting hit by landslide and winning the pony from the floor. Just pure, pure shame.

As for rain... I'm not sure. It might depend on context - I mean, if they're all just standing around and it starts raining, I'm sure they're like, "bugger this," and head for a cave, but if you neglect guard duty due to rain, are you considered weak? if you're in the midst of battle and it starts raining, does your honor not suffer if you can't take it in the name of defeating your enemies in the face of adversity? High humidity for extended periods likely causes respiratory issues, if lizards are anything to go by, though.

Given the FFXIV elemental wheel, you'd think they'd have a bigger hatred of wind.

The forums would be a very sad place without you, Anonymoose!

It's been forever since I did those quests so I didn't remember the bit that they could drink SOME water. Either way, thanks for the clear cut explanation. The Amalj'aa are my fav beast tribe.

Considering getting cold water getting splashed on their heads by their enemy is considered extremely shaming, I think they would despise rain with a passion. That said, I don't think that rain would have any immediate negative effects on them though they could have issues with long term exposure.

However I could easily see both groups of Amalj'aa moving around in the rain if needed. The Ifrit Zealots because of their near mindless devotion to their god and the Brotherhood of Ash's deep commitment to duty and strength. That doesn't mean they wouldn't hate the experience with a passion.
