This is the problem, the assumption by some (many?) players that speed running is the default way of running. that is NOT the case, speed runs are not the default, they are the exception. If you get a message indicating new players - even if no one speaks up when asked - the safest course is to proceed with normal pulls until you get the feel for what people can handle.

It should not be a surprise to anyone that a 4 man dungeon with at least one player who is 'new' to the duty will NOT be a speed run.

I think some of the problem stems from those with tank alts who only que as a tank for the faster que times which is why they fly off into the distance before you see a protect go up, and now tanks seem to have been branded as douches.
Oh, I main Paladin, I am a tank through and through, and I never assume a speed run. Thanks to my wife being a healer, I'm also very aware that not every white mage (or scholar) is comfortable healing through a trash pack of 20 - even if their gear and skill would allow them to. So, by default I start with a normal run and speed things up a bit if asked. But, unless I am running with a pre-made party that was set up for speed running, I will not jump into mass pulls, it's just not the wisest course - IMHO.

But yeah, for any tank who kind of makes their living being a tank, it's annoying when people brand tanks as douches, because we know that isn't the case for all of us. Sadly, a very loud and prominent minority of the tank population is earning all tanks a terrible reputation.
