    New Jobs and Armory Space

    As of right now I have every class/job to lvl 50 and all are well geared. I barely have enough Armory space for this gear. A lot of my old gear is taking up much needed space on my Retainers. If I try to level the new jobs I will not have enough space for all the gear. Has SE given any consideration to these new requirements?

    I'm pretty sure they already stated that due to the new jobs they will be giving us additional retainers/retainer space in the expansion.

    All Well and good for your old gear. What about active gear? The Armory Chest is not sufficient in its current configuration to support all the classes/jobs.

    This ^

    In an interview Yoshi said they can not increase the size of the armory because it will increase read and write calls to the server and cause a slow down to server processing speed.

    They are however looking into ways of getting around it, but I doubt it will be in for the launch of 3.0, so they will be giving us extra retainer space instead.

    The Armory Chest is mostly sufficient if you have all classes level capped, but The Twelve bless you if you have them all leveling at different levels. There was a period of time when I had more rings than the AC could hold, forcing me to keep switching rings in and out of the AC when I switch jobs.

    The main-hand and the rings categories. These are the two that will run into problems first.

    A good band-aid would be to integrate the AC, the Inventory, and most importantly the Quest Items memory space. Superficially they are still separate entities, but integrate them in the backend (i.e. virtualize the AC) so that the AC could "borrow" slots from the Inventory and Quest Item Inventory when needed. Process the display and sorting on the client side.

    99% of the time the quest items inventory is 90% empty. That memory space could be put to very good use without needing extra storage space. Unless, of course, the quest items inventory space had always been a virtual space...then the point is moot.

    Reddit: With addition with new jobs in Heavensward, player inventories and armory chest space will start to suffer. Any plans to increase storage space, perhaps with quests similar to Final Fantasy XI or something along those lines?

    Yoshida: First and foremost we've heard this question asked multiple times around the world and we want to mention that in Final Fantasy XIV just the sheer volume of the character data and the number of items each character can hold is much greater than that of a typical MMO. The reason why we can’t increase the size of the armory chest quickly or easily relates to how often we rewrite the data into the servers in the back end. We rewrite the data every fifteen seconds so even if the server goes down you don’t experience a rollback. Of course with the sheer volume of the character data when you expand the armory chest the amount of load that goes into the rewriting and refreshing of the back end servers would increase and we’re trying to keep it as quick as possible. We currently have it at fifteen seconds but if we were to add more load to it then it may make it take longer to do that refresh and it may delay to thirty seconds, one minute, fifteen minutes. We don’t want to take away from the player experience. We don’t want things to slow down because we’re expanding the armory chest. We’re researching ways in which we can make that happen. We need more time to make that happen. We’re not saying it’s impossible but your patience would be appreciated as we try to figure out a way to optimize the process so that it won’t take away from the speed and affect playability or the player’s experience. We are trying to implement something that can be addressed quicker which is increasing the number of retainers. So in the mean time we if you are using things within the game fairly frequently you may want to utilize the expanded retainer capabilities.

    They could increase the character data, but it will also increase the time between the backup saves and increase the risk of character rollback if a server go down.

    Yup, they have already suggested that for hand classes you won't be able to max them all out so there is a good chance you will be only specialising in 2-3 of those anyway.
