    Severe Lags from Packet Loss : R0 (What's the deal, SE?)

    So here is the deal;

    I've been dealing with this issue for literally months. I have contacted my ISP (Time Warner Cable) to double check throttling or P2P issues, I've traced hops, checked my ping in multiples (53-62ms), my graphical FPS and internet connections are both solid. Other programs don't disconnect. Other games don't disconnect.

    Dungeons are absolutely impossible with the amount of lag spiking.
    This problem occurs at any point during dungeons or during fates; regardless of party makeup or leveling solo. Any time of day, peak or non-peak hours. One of two things will constantly happen; constantly being easily every 45m-1hr of gameplay.

    #1.r0; snap back.
    At any given point during a battle/dungeon, any information being received back from the server drops immediately to zero without a single warning. Nothing out of the ordinary prompts this; it will happen at random. FPS and system specs are running perfectly fine-- meaning that there is no dithering of graphical issues. This notes specifically that this is not system related-- it's connection and/or server related. However, no characters or the monsters will be moving. Everyone is simply standing there with their weapon out doing nothing. Until the server finally catches up all at once, blasting you with a buildup of lagged information like a rubber band snapped in your face, which is a sudden and jarring spasm of character animation, particles, and players zipping across the screen. Rinse repeat.

    It is terrible during fates;
    Worst in DF dungeons.

    This is absolutely impossible to not only play, but to heal as well. HP bars don't move or indicate that anyone is taking damage because the server hasn't sent that information back to you yet. The best you can do is spam cures and hope to god you're not standing in anything going off by the time it catches up. Out of MP? No clue. How's the tank's HP? No idea. By the time everyone has unfrozen and shot across the screen at mach 16, you and your party are already dead. Good luck dodging any important attacks (bombs, titan landslides, AoEs, etc.) Information is being sent steadily; but the receiving will tank to 0--raise--then tank to 0 again at its own volition. It's horrific.

    The other being 90k.
    And I won't discuss that because there are hundreds if not thousands of players that, like myself, have this issue. There are plenty of other threads about it.

    Has anyone else experienced this?

    I have the same issue since 2.5. I live in Italy and my ISP is Telecom Italia. Last week the issue wasn't occuring anymore but it started again yesterday.
    I did my duty to check my ping and trace route and the huge spike in ping and lack of response start when i enter level3.net area.
    I know i'm playing oversea and i can't hope for a stable connection but the costant rubberbanding is making me really mad.....

    Meilolo,

    thank you for this awesome explanation.
    This is how I experience instances starting ~4 days ago (and the time doesn't matter as I thought at first). The funny thing is (like I mentioned in the German technical support section: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...ndungsprobleme) that I can watch myself in realtime at my husband's screen (same hardware/grafic card and game configuration) and each command I give (heal, moving and so on) will be done in realtime. I only experienced it once that the lag lasted too long, that I got disconnected. My husband (same internet connection) did not have any lags so far.

    I hope SE will answer soon. Please do not ignore this problem. Thank you.

    Kind regards,

    Ariesiel

    Same thing has been happening to me for the past week. Basically packet loss (everything freezes for 5 seconds or so and R:0) and high ping spikes. I've only gotten 90k'd once so far, though.

    After some testing, I believe it's my internets fault and not SE's servers. Doing different ping tests and pinging google through command prompt showed packet loss and ping spikes even when not in game. I'm also a Time Warner customer and just got off the phone dealing with customer service. After finally convincing them that yes my modem is actually plugged in (damn India call centers) they are going to send a technician to my house tomorrow to check my connection. Hopefully they can fix it and my lag goes away.
