    PC resetting/restarting

The game is crashing and causing a reboot after a few moments in-game. Have checked power supply and card (video) works without issue in other games (Crysis 2,3..WoW, FarCry, Many Steam games and so on) The video settings have been reduced in-game and in the Nvidia control panel with no resolution to the issue.

    PC is hand built.
    Nvidia 770 with latests drivers.
    Windows 8.1 pro 64 bit.
Intel 4700k proc at 3.5 Ghz and 16 MB of ram.
Samsung 840 EVO SSD drive with trim on.

Internet is CATV 50Mb down/5 Mb up.

Mine was doing the same thing when I was running nvidia660s
A lot of FFXIV has stopped working, white screens and reboots

About a month ago I upgraded to SLI960s and haven't had one crash, just a single cpu reboot for updating running at max settings

Only thing that changed was my video cards, found it kinda odd

Was thinking of putting the second card in for SLI...but with this going on I think it would cloud the issue. Everything checks out as far as power supply/board/memory is concerned. The 960's use the same drivers do they not?

Without actually monitoring your desktop it's hard to say. Could be faulty hardware such as a bad RAM stick. This happens to me and would constantly restart my computer

Or it could be overheating issues. XIV takes up a lot of CPU. Check your Temps to make sure it's not running to hot.

Sorry that's all I could suggest. Good luck!

I know you said at the top the power supply checks out, but do you mean it's of sufficient size or that you've constantly monitored the levels it's actually outputting at the point of the crash?

Reason I say that it is because I had the same problem myself and that I started to get random restarts/lockups which got worse over time and it turned out to be the PSU even though it "looked" fine.

Even though it was of sufficient capacity (1200W known brand and I rarely actually used over 400W) it was 6 years old and it seems it just went bad over time (apparently not that uncommon) so when the graphics card/processor had a drastic jump in power requirements, the PSU couldn't always keep up with that sudden change. It started off at occasional reboots, but got worse over time, until the point 6 months later that it was even crashing as it tried to boot Windows. Thankfully as soon as I put a new PSU in it fixed the problem and I haven't had a single reboot since!

If you have another PSU (yeh I know, who has a spare PSU?) I think it'd be worth your time to connect it up to see if it fixes the problem. Sorry if this isn't any help though, but just wanted to mention it because I had this myself I assumed that because the PSU seemed to be working/was big enough it must be okay and I couldn't have been more wrong!

CPU temps are never over 40c (monitored by two different software packages) GPU temps never over 51c (monitored) The software monitoring packages both log temps with time stamps and are viewable by day/hour/minute. I have excellent cooling solutions for the CPU and the GPU. Both are water cooled. The CPU has a Kraken on it and the GPU has a water cooler as well. Note: No other games/software show any sort of problems which result in the computer rebooting as it is doing with FFXIV. This includes Crysis 1,2, and 3 and other "video intensive" software. An Nvidia GTX 770 should have no problems running this game, and if this card can't I would hate to think what a lesser card would do......

Thanks for the input I do appreciate it...I have been able to get the game to run after changing some of the setting for it in NCP...now the game runs for as long as 30 minutes or so but seems to crash randomly now with the same problem of a reboot....puzzled now for sure Grrrr..... lol

The power supply is about 4 months old. I checked it out with a power supply tester (both 12v rails) and they check out as clean/functioning properly with no drops or spikes (done under a simulated load as well) so I'm fairly sure it's not a power supply issue. The power supply is a 750w Gold so of (should be!) good quality. The only time I get this rebooting problem is when running FFXIV. Other games/software run as expected without issues. I did connect another PS (1000w) which did not make any difference ...I had the same thought (lol) The game seems to be running better after changing some settings in NCP, but still crashes and reboots the comp after a bit (randomly) anywhere from a few minutes to 30-1hr. Puzzled now... Haven't seen any recent posts in Nvidia forums about this...only old ones. That's where I got the settings to change in the control panel. This seems to be an issue that has cropped up before but has never been sufficently explained or dealt with by either Nvidia...or Square Enix. Not to sure what to do now.....

Unfortunately, it isn't just those with Nvidia graphics cards that are being affected by this. I use an AMD Radeon HD 6700 graphics card, and I am also having this problem. My whole computer will restart after a few moments of logging in to FFXIV, and this has only started happening yesterday. I haven't had any problems with it randomly crashing in the past, and now it is suddenly crashing every time I log in. I've checked all potential problem parts on my comp, but they are all running smoothly. All of my other games still work normally, too. It is just FFXIV that is giving me trouble.

When it crashes does the screen just go black? Rainbow? BSOD?
Or go straight to your boot screen?

I can't speak for anybody else having this problem, but when my comp restarts, the screen goes black just as it does when I turn off or restart the computer in a normal fashion (like if you turn off your computer, but forget to turn off the monitor. The monitor's power button will go from green to yellow, showing that it is still technically on, but not being used. I hope that makes sense. I'm terrible at wording things.) Once it begins rebooting, it'll show the usual boot screens. It really is just the same as if I push the reset button on my tower.
