I'm curious about this myself, i can see it being some form of large FATE which will happen over time.

Im hoping for some mass FATE where we fend off dragons!

Perhaps they will open up the gates of judgement and its a FATE that takes part on the bridge?

I just hope I'll be able to participate in it... I'm lvl 50 and have done a lot of the main story (almost unlocked all the HM dungeons too), but they added so much more to the main quests after the base game I don't see myself being able to finish it in time!

Considering the expansion won't be released until June the 19th (early access), you'll have much more than enough time to catch up with the main scenario.

The Japanese word that's translated to "battle" there lost some meaning in translation. 防衛戰 means defensive battle and was used in the Japanese name of "Hamlet Defense" (if my memory serves me right). At least I find that interesting.

All this really means is the event will have us in one place fending off an attack rather than instigating the attack ourselves.
Which is really the only practical way to handle a "battle" in an MMO anyway unless new mechanics are specifically created. Think about how many FATEs and leves we have that are basically us defending one piece of ground against something.
